Details:
• Loewe Opta Bella Rekord, Type 3714W
At €89, this sits below the €101 median and under the €153 75th percentile for recent comparable listings, so it reads as a solid buy rather than an ambitious one. It is not a screaming bargain, but it is comfortably in the fair-to-good zone for a working example, especially given that this is a sought-after late-1950s Loewe Opta set.
What makes it appealing is the combination of period looks, respectable build quality, and the fact that it’s described as functioning, which is the key divider on these valve radios. For a buyer who wants an attractive, playable tabletop set rather than a project, the upside is real; just make sure the cabinet, dial glass, and speaker cloth are present and that “works” means stable reception and sensible sound, not a half-dead chassis.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Loewe was founded in Berlin in 1923 by Siegmund and David Ludwig Loewe, and it belongs among the older names in German consumer electronics. Its early history is tied to radio and television development, and the brand later established its manufacturing and design base in Kronach, Bavaria, where it has long emphasized “Made in Germany” production and in-house engineering.
For today’s market, Loewe is best known for premium televisions, home-cinema systems, soundbars, and related audio components rather than a broad hi-fi catalog. It is not typically a maker of separate amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables in the way specialist audio brands are. The company’s audio presence is usually integrated into its AV ecosystem, with an emphasis on design-led, high-performance living-room products.
In market position, Loewe sits in the upscale to luxury end of the consumer AV segment. Its appeal is strongest among buyers who value craftsmanship, minimalist industrial design, and a distinctly German premium image alongside strong picture and sound quality. It is less of a vintage-collector audio name than a contemporary high-end lifestyle AV brand, with its reputation built on television heritage and polished, design-forward home entertainment.
