This is an older Bose Lifestyle-era sub, so timing mostly matters because condition and completeness will matter more than spec-sheet freshness. At €400, it sits well above the usual used market for this category: the recent median is €63, with the 75th percentile at €169, so this asking price is ambitious and hard to justify unless the set is exceptionally complete, pristine, and includes the right matching hardware.
What makes it worth considering is the Bose appeal for compact, easy-to-place bass support in a matching Lifestyle system, where these units are valued more for system integration than brute force. If this is an original-owner piece with the correct cables, controller compatibility, and a clean, fully working driver/amp section, it could still be useful — but at this price, a buyer should verify exact compatibility and expect a premium only if the package is unusually complete.

Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."
Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.
Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
