Overview

The AURALiC Vega G2 is a high-performance network streaming DAC and digital preamplifier, with the LEO GX Master Clock providing an external reference for enhanced clock stability. The G2 is based on a customised ESS Sabre DAC capable of decoding PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD512, with galvanic isolation separating the  digital processing platform from the DAC section.

The unit is capable of Tidal and Qobuz Connect, also Roon Ready and accessible via some third-party applications including mConnect. While the Lightning DS platform is no longer available for download, it is still functional if you already have it downloaded. Airplay is also quick and easy for casual listening.

For use as a pure DAC, G2 includes AES/EBU, coaxial S/PDIF, TOSLink optical and USB inputs. Four selectable PCM digital filters—Smooth, Balance, Dynamic and Precise—allow the digital response characteristics to be configured, with separate filtering available for DSD material.

The accompanying LEO GX master clock uses a temperature-controlled SC-cut crystal oscillator with direct-to-DAC 3.3V CMOS output, operating at 90.3168MHz for 44.1kHz-based material and 98.3040MHz for 48kHz-based material. Communication between the LEO GX and VEGA G2 is provided through the included master-clock connection and Lightning Link, allowing the two units to operate as a synchronised digital system.

Independent bench testing of the Vega G2 and LEO GX found extremely low distortion and strong jitter suppression, with the LEO GX providing additional suppression of jitter at higher sampling rates. In testing with 24/192 material and deliberately introduced jitter, the VEGA G2 alone showed measurable jitter-related side peaks, while the combination with the LEO GX suppressed those artefacts.

This particular Vega G2 unit has the internal clock disabled and will only operate with the LEO GX Clock.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Is this the sort of DAC you want to buy once and keep? At A$6,800, this sits right at the 75th percentile of the recent AUD comps, so it’s an ambitious ask rather than an outright bargain; the median is A$4,474 and the lower quartile is A$3,924, so there’s only a narrow case for paying this if the condition and inclusions are especially strong.

That said, the Vega G2 is well regarded for its smooth, highly resolving sound, flexible streaming/DAC duties, and generally premium build, so it remains a desirable piece in the AURALiC range. If this one is clean, boxed, and complete with the right accessories, it can still make sense for a buyer who wants the model specifically; otherwise, I’d expect a bit more breathing room at this price.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About AURALiC

AURALiC was founded in 2009 by Xuanqian Wang and operated as a Hong Kong-based digital-audio specialist. The company built its reputation around the philosophy that high-fidelity audio should be accessible to serious listeners rather than confined to ultra-luxury markets. Though headquartered in Asia, AURALiC maintained a global distribution network and cultivated a dedicated following among audiophiles worldwide.

The brand specialized in digital streaming components and high-resolution audio sources, with their product lineup centered on network streamers such as the Altair, Aries, and Vega models, alongside digital-to-analog converters and integrated streaming solutions. AURALiC positioned itself in the premium mid-to-high-end segment, offering feature-rich, sonically accomplished products that combined innovative technology with thoughtful industrial design. Their ecosystem approach—pairing hardware with mobile control applications—appealed to listeners seeking convenience without compromising sound quality.

AURALiC ceased operations in September 2025 following an 80% sales collapse in that year. The company's decline resulted from converging pressures: US tariff barriers that suspended American sales, intensifying competition from budget streaming alternatives, economic contraction in China, and mounting software-development costs. Founder Wang's departure in January 2025 preceded the company's final dissolution, leaving owners of its premium products without ongoing support or software updates—a cautionary reminder of the vulnerabilities facing even well-regarded independent audio brands.
