Seller's Description

Unison Research Unico CDE CD Player Unison Research Unico CDE CD player with valve output stage and factory optional DAC upgrade.    This is a great sounding CD player, very smooth and analogue sounding to my ear. It’s got 4 x 12AX7 valves in the output stage. I would say it’s got the positives of the valve sound, smooth, holographic and airy, but not too much of a good thing as valves can be at times. I’ve really enjoyed it.    It has the optional factory DAC upgrade, and is in excellent functional and cosmetic condition. It is extremely well built with a very solid chassis. Remote included.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

What should you be asking yourself first: is A$1,800 close enough to fair-market for one of these, or are you paying collector money for a good but niche player? Based on the limited used-market evidence I could verify, this looks fair rather than cheap: preowned examples are clearly traded as premium pieces, and the asking price sits in the territory I’d expect for a clean, working Unison Research CD player of this type in Australia.

That makes it interesting if you value the brand’s warm, engaging presentation and want a disc player with real boutique appeal. The upside here is strongest if it’s genuinely excellent condition, ideally with the remote, manual, power lead, and box; complete examples are the ones that age best and are easiest to resell. I’d buy it for sound and condition first, not as a bargain hunt.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Unison Research

Unison Research, an Italian hi-fi icon, traces its roots to 1987, when it was founded in Treviso by Giovanni Maria Sacchetti, a visionary electronics engineer and music enthusiast born in 1945. Sacchetti, who balanced a career in teaching with amplifier design, assembled a team of dedicated audiophiles driven by a singular passion: delivering profound musical pleasure through superior sound. From its inception, the company emphasized handmade craftsmanship entirely within Italy, evolving under subsequent leadership like Giovanni Nasta while honoring Sacchetti's legacy of innovation in tube-based audio.

The brand excels in valve amplifiers, its core strength, with legendary models like the Triode 20—the first integrated amp Sacchetti designed—and the Simply Two, which sold over 30,000 units and propelled global acclaim. Early offerings included the Glowy preamp and Ruler power amp, pioneering designs such as the first stereo amplifier using the 845 triode. Today, Unison Research offers a focused lineup of preamplifiers, power amps, integrated amplifiers, and select speakers in partnership with Opera Loudspeakers, prioritizing pure analog warmth over digital peripherals like DACs or headphones.

Positioned as a high-end boutique leader, Unison Research reigns as Italy's top tube amplifier producer and ranks among Europe's elite ten. Audiophiles worldwide revere its products for their emotional depth, artisanal quality, and timeless appeal, cementing a niche among discerning buyers seeking authentic, soul-stirring hi-fi that transcends mere technical specs.
