The timing matters because this is a discontinued Bose system from 2006–2018, so you’re shopping the used market rather than waiting for a current equivalent. At €150, it lands just above the €147 median and right inside the normal €127–€152 band, so this reads as fair rather than cheap or stretched.
That’s still a sensible buy if the set is complete and clean, because the Companion 5 is well-liked for easy desktop setup, strong low-end for its size, and a big, room-filling sound that made it a favorite for PC listening. The real value is in finding one with the USB pod, cables, and working satellite/subwoofer balance intact; at this price, a well-kept example is a solid pick for someone who wants that classic Bose nearfield sound without overpaying.

Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."
Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.
Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
