Fair ask, sitting right on the money. At £1,299, it lands exactly on your recent median and just under the £1,384 75th percentile, so it’s not a bargain-bin steal but it is properly priced for this market.
That’s a good place for a H120: a well-liked integrated with real grip, clean streaming/DAC functionality, and enough drive to anchor a serious mid-level system. If it’s tidy and complete, this is a sensible buy rather than a project piece; I’d just confirm remote, packaging, and that the network section is behaving as it should.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Hegel Music Systems traces its roots to 1988 at the Technical University in Trondheim, Norway, where student Bent Holter founded the company as part of his thesis on revolutionary transistor amplifier design. Targeting distortion—the bane of traditional hi-fi—Holter developed the patented SoundEngine technology, laying the groundwork for Hegel's enduring innovation. From modest beginnings in the early 1990s, with early DACs in 1994 and CD players by 1996, the brand expanded steadily, even hiring engineers amid the financial crisis to pioneer advanced D/A converters.
Hegel's product lineup centers on high-end electronics, excelling in integrated, pre-, and power amplifiers that deliver effortless power and precision. They also produce sophisticated standalone DACs, CD players, and phono stages, emphasizing digital integration and streaming capabilities. Manufacturing occurs in China, while Norway handles all design, circuit development, testing, and software.
Positioned firmly in the high-end hi-fi market, Hegel commands a global reputation for musicality, neutrality, and build quality, with dealers in over 60 countries and accolades like the HiFi+ Innovation Award. Collectors and discerning audiophiles prize its no-nonsense Scandinavian engineering, bridging modern digital demands with analog purity in a competitive boutique landscape.
