Mirage M790 M490 MC3 Surround Speakers Being a speaker addict I have had various models and brands over many years. I've accumulated way too many, so have had to decide to quit one of my favourites! This is a killer home theatre or music set of Mirage speakers at bargain price. Front: M-790 bipolar with amazing bass and rear firing midrange, gloss finish. Rear: M490 8” two way (see notes) Centre: MC-3 Notes: Firstly, they are not new and have various minor marks. Secondly, the M-490 tweeters have had the domes replaced with plastic ones, but still work well. Performance is excellent all round.
Mirage’s M-series has a good reputation for smooth, spacious imaging, and this bundle is a sensible way into that sound if the cabinets and drivers are truly clean. At A$580, it looks fair to good value rather than a steal: a similar Mirage M-490 pair has shown up around US$160 used, and the M-790 was a higher-tier model with a much higher original price, so A$580 for the set sits in a reasonable used range for a complete Mirage surround setup.
The appeal here is system-matching: the M-790 towers, M-490s, and MC3 center should give a coherent front stage with the laid-back Mirage voicing many listeners like for music and movies. Excellent condition matters on these, because age-related issues like tired foam, driver wear, or cabinet damage can erode value fast. If the set is original, complete, and all drivers are working properly, this is a worthwhile buy for someone building a matched home theater or a vintage Mirage rig.
