Should you pay a premium for a solid old Acurus, or wait for a better-priced one? At US$650, this is clearly above the typical used market: your recent comps center on US$350, with US$298 at the 25th percentile and US$495 at the 75th, so this lands meaningfully into ambitious territory.
That said, the appeal is real: these amps have a reputation for honest power, good grip, and a clean, muscular presentation that still makes sense in a serious stereo or home-theater setup. If it’s fully functional, quiet, and well cared for, it can still be a worthwhile piece—but at this price I’d want proof of service history, tight cosmetic condition, and confidence that everything is original and performing to spec.

Acurus emerged in 1993 from Mondial Designs in the United States, positioned as a more accessible counterpart to the acclaimed Aragon brand. Created to deliver high-end performance through minimalist designs, premium specifications, and made-in-America manufacturing, it targeted the specialty AV market against pricier imports. In mid-2009, Indy Audio Labs—co-founded by audio engineer Rick Santiago and physicist Ted Moore—acquired Acurus, revitalizing its legacy after a period of dormancy under Klipsch ownership.
The brand specializes in power amplifiers, AV control processors, and immersive home cinema solutions, blending cutting-edge audio technologies with system setup and control features. Recent offerings like the compact M8X and M4X amplifiers underscore its focus on multi-channel power for media rooms, gaming, and high-performance theaters, all engineered with proprietary electronics, robust mechanics, and intuitive software.
Acurus holds a strong reputation for delivering high-end audio at competitive prices, earning trust among discerning buyers for its rock-solid durability, authentic sound reproduction, and five-year warranty. As a premium American marque under Indy Audio Labs in Indianapolis, it occupies a niche in custom installations, appealing to knowledgeable enthusiasts seeking reliable, USA-built excellence without boutique excess.
