Is US$820 a bargain for a 3B ST, or just a sensible entry point into a well-liked classic? It looks like a solid buy: it sits below the 25th percentile of the recent used market anchor at US$888, so this is underpriced relative to typical asking levels and reads as a real deal rather than merely fair.
That’s why this one still matters: the 3B ST has a long-standing reputation for clean, rugged, honest power and a sound that pairs well with difficult speakers. At this price, the upside is strong if it’s been well cared for, ideally with original packaging, confirmed service history, and no channel imbalance or relay issues; with older Brystons, a quick functional check is worth doing, but the asking price leaves room for a little diligence.

Bryston emerged from Canada's medical electronics sector, where it began producing high-tech blood analyzers in 1962. The pivot to high-performance audio came in 1976, sparked by James Tanner's quest to drive demanding electrostatic speakers. Drawing on medical-grade components, the debut of the 4B amplifier at the Chicago Consumer Electronics Show marked the brand's entry into hi-fi, quickly earning acclaim from critics like Peter Aczel and establishing its Canadian manufacturing legacy.
Renowned for robust amplifiers and preamplifiers, Bryston has expanded into digital components such as DACs and streamers, as well as powered speakers. This evolution reflects a commitment to both analog purity and modern digital demands, serving consumer, professional, and commercial markets—from home listening to stadium sound reinforcement—while maintaining a focus on uncompromised musical accuracy.
Positioned firmly in the high-end audio arena, Bryston commands respect for its no-nonsense engineering, timeless designs, and unparalleled reliability, backed by industry-leading warranties. Music and movie enthusiasts trust it for scientifically verifiable sound quality that endures for decades, cementing its status as a benchmark for discerning buyers seeking longevity without compromise.
