At €140, this sits right on the used-market median and essentially matches a fair going rate for the model, so it reads as a sensible buy rather than a bargain or an overreach. Given current new pricing on this kind of Bose desktop system is far higher, the asking price is well anchored to the secondhand market and not asking for a premium.
The real draw here is the Companion 20’s reputation: for a compact 2.0 system, it’s known for surprisingly full, polished sound and strong nearfield performance at a desk. In excellent condition, that matters more than chasing a discount, especially if the set is complete and the control pod and power supply are included. At this price, a clean, fully working example is an easy recommend for anyone who wants a refined computer speaker upgrade without jumping to separates.

Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."
Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.
Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
