Compared with grabbing a random budget PC speaker set for similar money, this is a fair ask rather than a steal: €50 sits exactly at the median of the recent comps, with the 25th percentile also at €50 and the 75th at €51. That makes it properly market-priced, not a bargain-bin outlier, but also not overpriced.
The reason to buy is simple: the Companion 2 is a well-known small desktop system that delivers easy, listenable sound with solid bass for its size and a compact footprint that still makes sense for a desk, laptop, or secondary setup. At €50 in good condition, the value comes from getting a tidy, proven nearfield pair without paying for inflated “vintage” pricing; if the power supply and cables are included and it sounds clean at higher volume, it’s a sensible buy.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."
Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.
Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
