Against four recent comparable listings, the €439 asking price is ambitious rather than fair: it sits just below the €444 75th percentile but well above the €270 median. Excellent condition helps, yet this is not a bargain; a more convincing buy would be nearer the median unless the listing includes particularly desirable extras.
The Syntar 100 remains an appealing, lively Italian speaker, with an engaging presentation, well-saturated midrange and strong dynamic character. It is relatively compact and easy to enjoy, though its roughly 4-ohm load deserves a capable amplifier and the bass is not its most balanced trait. At €439, confirm the drivers, surrounds, grilles and crossover are fully healthy, and look for original packaging or stands before paying a premium.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Founded in Milan, Italy, in 1975, Chario traces its origins to two University of Milan research engineers, Carlo "CHArlie" Vicenzetto and MaRIO Murace, whose names inspired the brand. Driven by psychoacoustic studies on human hearing and body shape influences, they pioneered innovations like circular magnet arrays to optimize voice coil magnetic fields. From the outset, Chario committed to Italian craftsmanship, hand-building every component in-house—a rarity that persists over five decades.
Chario specializes exclusively in high-fidelity loudspeakers, eschewing amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables. Their lineup features solid walnut cabinets meticulously shaped by master woodworkers, paired with bespoke Italian-made drivers designed for uncolored, transparent sound reproduction. Models span standmounts to floorstanders across series like Academy, emphasizing music-first purity over gimmicks.
Positioned as a niche boutique high-end marque, Chario enjoys a cult reputation among discerning audiophiles for its artisanal integrity and sonic honesty, predating peers like Sonus Faber in solid-wood construction and research-driven design. Handcrafted in small batches, their speakers deliver reference-level coherence at prices from mid-tier accessibility to flagship indulgence, appealing to buyers seeking authentic Italian heritage without mass-market compromise.
