The NDH 30 is notable for delivering unusually neutral, studio-oriented performance in an open-back design. At €398, this is a strong deal: it sits well below the €450 25th-percentile comparable and comfortably under the €505 median, making it a genuine bargain if “good” condition is accurately represented.
What makes it worthwhile is the clean, low-distortion presentation, precise imaging, fast transients, and excellent detail retrieval—particularly useful for mixing, critical listening, and anyone wanting an honest reference headphone rather than a flattering hi-fi voicing. The open-back construction gives it a natural sense of space, while the extended, controlled bass is more capable than many similarly neutral models. Check that both channels match, the pads and headband are sound, and the original cable is included, but at €398 those are sensible checks rather than reasons to hesitate.

Neumann traces its origins to Berlin, Germany, where Georg Neumann and Erich Rickmann founded the company in 1928. Initially focused on pioneering condenser microphones, such as the groundbreaking CMV 3—nicknamed "The Bottle"—Neumann quickly established itself as an innovator amid the early days of professional audio. Despite wartime disruptions that split production and led to the creation of Microtech Gefell, Georg Neumann rebuilt in post-war Berlin, launching the iconic U 47 tube-condenser microphone, which solidified the brand's legacy in recording history.
The brand specializes in professional recording equipment, renowned for its high-end condenser microphones like the U 47, U 67, and U 87, which dominate studios worldwide. Beyond mics, Neumann produces studio monitors, headphones, preamplifiers, audio interfaces such as the recent MT 48, and historically excelled in cutting lathes for mastering. This pro-audio emphasis sets it apart from consumer hi-fi categories like amplifiers, turntables, or cables.
Neumann commands an elite position in the market as the gold standard for professional recording, embodying precision engineering and unmatched fidelity prized by engineers and producers. Its products grace legendary sessions, blending vintage reverence with modern reliability, making it essential for discerning hi-fi enthusiasts seeking studio-grade accuracy rather than mid-tier or boutique consumer gear.
