Seller's Description

Onkyo RZ70 AV Receiver Onkyo RZ70 Receiver for 2-channel Stereo and Multi-channel Home Theatre.   This unit was purchased new from Rio Sound, it sat unopened on my shelf for 6 months while my living room home theatre was being wired/built… and then it was opened and has been used 1-2 times a week for the past 4 months.   It is in immaculate condition, still retains 26 months left on its warranty and has performed flawlessly for me since.   My reason for selling is I am utilising small speakers in a 5.1.2 setup… it is quite simply wasted on such a small home theatre system… and I’m desperate fo

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Onkyo TX-RZ70 is a powerhouse flagship in the lineup, renowned for its 140W Dynamic Audio Amplification, THX certification, and included Dirac Live room correction. However, this listing’s A$3,800 asking price is ambitious, sitting well above the 75th percentile of A$2,291 for comparable used AUD listings and even exceeding the typical new retail price of roughly A$4,200 (converted from US$2,799). Unless this is a pristine, original-owner unit with a full accessory suite, it is not a bargain compared to the median used price of A$634.

Despite the high price, the RZ70 remains a top-tier buy for enthusiasts wanting genuine 11-channel power, 8K HDMI 2.1 support, and two independent subwoofer outputs without needing external amps. Its robust chassis, massive power supply, and premium ESS DACs deliver exceptional channel purity and low distortion that few competitors match. If the condition is immaculate and includes all original cables and the setup mic, this could still be a worthwhile opportunity for a serious home theater builder who values Onkyo’s dynamic sound over saving money.

About Onkyo

Onkyo traces its roots to postwar Japan, founded in 1946 in Osaka by Takeshi Goda, an engineer at Matsushita Electric who envisioned high-quality Japanese loudspeakers. Initially established as Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K., the company began production in 1948 with the acclaimed ED-100 speaker featuring a 25 cm driver, quickly building a reputation through LP concerts and innovative designs that resonated with audiophiles.

The brand excels in premium home audio, renowned for AV receivers, hi-fi amplifiers, and surround sound speakers that deliver exceptional clarity and power. Its portfolio spans turntables, DACs, headphones, and cables, bolstered by acquisitions like Pioneer's home electronics division in 2015, enabling cutting-edge integrations such as internet radio and high-resolution streaming.

Onkyo holds a solid mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, prized by discerning buyers for reliable performance and value rather than ultra-high-end exotica. Despite bankruptcy challenges in the late 2010s, its revival under new ownership preserves a legacy of technological innovation and pure sound enjoyment, appealing to both vintage enthusiasts and modern home cinema setups.
