Very large and very heavy floorstanders with original metal stands pictured in one photo. These sound superb. All Focal driver design, and beautifully voiced. Cosmetically very good, and work perfectly. Speaker trolleys pictured are NOT included, but the original metal stands are, which should be used for best sound.  Sizes: 1400H on stands x 290W x 500D including external crossovers. Pickup only from Keysborough 3173. Cash on pickup only. Condition: Very Good Payment Meth

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At AUD 2,800, this looks a touch ambitious rather than a clear bargain; for a used pair of Whatmough 502s, I’d want to be closer to the mid-AUD 2,000s unless they’re exceptionally tidy, fully original, and come with the external crossovers in top shape. It’s not outrageous if the market is thin and the condition is genuinely as good as stated, but it doesn’t read as an obvious “jump on it” price.

That said, the 502 is the kind of speaker that can justify itself if you want a big, serious Australian floorstander with scale, solidity, and a mature, refined presentation. The external crossover arrangement is a plus when complete, and original, well-kept examples tend to age better than most. I’d mainly check driver condition, crossover history, and whether the stands/accessories are included before paying near asking.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Whatmough Audio

Whatmough Audio, originally founded as Whatmough Monitors, traces its roots to Australia in 1976, when designer Colin Whatmough launched the Mk II, a pioneering large transmission line/open baffle hybrid loudspeaker. Based in Clayton, Victoria, near Melbourne, the brand emerged from Whatmough's passion for innovative speaker design, establishing a strong domestic presence that endures today under distributors like Westan and The Audio Experts. Though Whatmough passed away in 2011, his legacy persists through ongoing production nearly 50 years later.

The company specializes in high-end loudspeakers, with a reputation for precision-engineered models that prioritize exceptional sound quality. Iconic designs like the P33 Signature and the newer Emotion range exemplify their focus on advanced driver integration and cabinetry, often incorporating transmission line technology. While drivers may now source internationally, assembly remains tied to Australian craftsmanship, setting them apart in the hi-fi landscape.

Positioned as a niche boutique high-end brand, Whatmough commands respect among discerning Australian audiophiles for its award-winning performance and uncompromised engineering. It appeals to knowledgeable buyers seeking refined, emotionally engaging speakers rather than mass-market options, maintaining a cult following in a market dominated by imports.
