A true classic, 4 way acoustic suspension design. The 10in side-firing woofer gives them a fantastic top to bottom balanced sound. Easy to drive, 8ohms, rated to 250w, but I have even used them with a 25w valve amp with great results.Selling because surplus to my needs and not getting the play th...
Condition is listed as unknown, which matters here, but the price is still clearly ambitious: A$1,350 is well above the A$288 75th-percentile asking price from 56 comparable listings, and nearly eight times the A$172 median. Unless these are exceptionally clean, complete, and demonstrably serviced, there is substantial room to negotiate; around A$250–A$400 would look much closer to the observed market.
The 2.9 remains a serious, distinctive loudspeaker: a sealed four-way design with a long-throw 10-inch woofer, excellent imaging, detailed mids and highs, and genuinely deep, tight bass. It is also physically substantial and benefits from careful positioning and a capable amplifier, with impedance dipping near 3 ohms. At this asking price, insist on listening to both speakers, checking every driver and crossover input, inspecting cabinets and grilles, and confirming the spike kits are included.

NHT, or Now Hear This, emerged in 1986 from the innovative minds of co-founders Chris Byrne and Ken Kantor, an MIT graduate renowned for inventing the AR Magic Speaker. Based in the United States, initially on the East Coast before relocating to Benicia, California, the brand quickly carved a niche with its psychoacoustically informed approach to loudspeaker design. After a self-imposed hiatus in 2009 amid industry shifts, NHT reemerged under employee ownership, free from corporate intermediaries, reaffirming its commitment to direct-to-consumer evolution.
The company's product focus remains sharply on loudspeakers, particularly acoustic suspension models that prioritize musicality, tight response, and application-specific performance over rigid price tiers. Iconic lines like the SuperZero mini-monitor exemplify this, delivering transparent midrange and balanced highs in compact bookshelf formats. NHT eschews diversification into amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, instead channeling expertise into patented technologies that optimize sound for real-world listening environments.
NHT holds a respected mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, celebrated for high-value performance that punches above its weight and influences competitors. Its vintage models attract collectors, while current offerings appeal to discerning buyers seeking uncompromised acoustics without high-end premiums. Employee-owned and independent, NHT embodies boutique reliability for the knowledgeable audiophile prioritizing substance over hype.
