The notable thing here is the all-in-one practicality: the Behringer Europower PMP2000 is a straightforward powered mixer for compact PA work, rather than a specialist hi-fi component. At €500, though, this package sits well above the comparable market: recent listings show a €141 median, with the 75th percentile at €268. Unless the Solton subwoofer and the rest of the package add substantial, proven value, the asking price looks ambitious.
Its appeal is real: the PMP2000 offers plenty of convenient mixing and amplification in one box, making it useful for rehearsals, small events, speeches, or a simple mobile rig. The bundled subwoofer could make this a ready-to-use system and justify some premium over mixer-only listings, especially with suitable cables and clean, tested operation. Before paying €500, confirm the subwoofer’s exact model and condition, verify every amplifier channel and input works quietly, and establish that the package is complete; otherwise, negotiating toward the comparable range would be sensible.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Behringer traces its roots to January 25, 1989, when Uli Behringer founded the company in Willich, Germany. A self-taught electronics enthusiast who built his first synthesizer at age 16, Uli drew inspiration from his father's church organ projects and his own struggles as a pianist and sound engineer. Unable to afford professional studio gear, he began crafting affordable alternatives for himself and friends, rapidly scaling from a home workshop into a full production facility. This DIY heritage underscores Behringer's mission to democratize high-quality audio tools.
The brand excels in a vast array of pro-audio and hi-fi categories, including mixers, compressors, amplifiers, powered speakers, DJ controllers, synthesizers, and signal processors. Early hits like the 1990 MDX8000 Combinator and 1996 EURODESK MX8000 mixer paved the way for expansions into guitar pedals, studio monitors, and boutique recreations of vintage synths. Manufacturing shifted to China in the 1990s, enabling massive scale while maintaining patented innovations.
Behringer occupies the entry-to-mid-tier market, renowned for its "double the features, half the price" ethos that delivers solid performance to hobbyists, live sound pros, and budget-conscious studios. While praised for value and reliability in live and project-studio settings, it faces criticism for build quality shortcuts compared to high-end marques, positioning it as a pragmatic choice for discerning buyers prioritizing accessibility over audiophile prestige.
