Seller's Description

Acoustic Energy AE2 Bookshelf Loudspeakers Older pair of Acoustic Energy  AE2 speakers, once one of the best bookshelf speakers on the market used in many sound studios and reference monitors. I have 2 pairs always loved them and keeping my wooden finished ones. I do have a set of the original stands not for sale as would be twice asking price for speakers as so rare in Aus and bloody heavy to import. RRP was new in there day which I'm guessing these are 30 odd years old. Not many better sounding speakers for a 1000 dollars used. Could do with a tidy up but still award winning sound.   Conditi

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a buyer’s market for vintage Acoustic Energy bookshelf speakers, and the A$990 asking price for these AE2s is a strong deal, sitting well below the 25th percentile of A$1,035 from 18 recent AUD comparables and far under the median of A$1,765. You’re getting classic late-’80s/early-’90s British engineering at a bargain entry point.

The original AE2s are well-regarded for their tight bass, precise metal-dome tweeter, and room-friendly size, delivering articulate, non-fatiguing sound that still competes with modern budget bookshelves. At this price, even with unknown condition, the upside is huge: if the drivers are intact and the cabinets clean, these could be a steal for small-room listening or as a gifted second system. Only verify the tweeters and check for cabinet cracks before committing.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Acoustic Energy

Acoustic Energy, a British hi-fi icon, traces its roots to London, England, where founder Phil Jones established the company on April 4, 1987, initially as Eldonfield Limited. The brand's debut came swiftly with the legendary AE1 compact loudspeaker, a compact monitor that shattered expectations by delivering dynamics, power, and clarity rivaling far larger high-end designs. Relocating to Cirencester in the Cotswolds by 1994—and solidifying its base there since 1995—the firm has remained proudly UK-owned, blending over a century of directors' audio expertise with a commitment to innovation and quality.

The brand centers on loudspeakers as its core strength, from the iconic AE1 to modern standmounts, floorstanders, and entry-level models that expanded via strategic partnerships. While it ventured briefly into electronics like Bluetooth speakers and WiFi radios, Acoustic Energy excels in speaker design, prioritizing compact enclosures with exceptional performance. It avoids diversification into amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, staying true to its loudspeaker heritage.

Renowned worldwide, Acoustic Energy commands respect as a mid-tier powerhouse, earning hundreds of awards from hi-fi press over three decades for value-driven excellence. Positioned for discerning buyers seeking British engineering without ultra-premium pricing, it delivers pedigree sound that punches above its weight, securing a loyal following among knowledgeable enthusiasts who prize clarity, dynamics, and enduring build quality.
