€499 is a fair-to-slightly-strong asking price, but not an obvious bargain for a used FA122.
This is a very capable compact DSP amplifier: dual NCORE channels deliver 2 × 125 W into 4 ohms, with extensive analogue and digital connectivity, FIR/IIR filtering, presets, and the option to bridge for higher power. It is particularly worthwhile for an active two-way or subwoofer project, where the integrated DSP and efficient Class D design save considerable box space and system complexity. At €499, condition and completeness matter: confirm that the configuration software, USB access, correct mains version, and all connectors or mounting hardware are included. A clean, tested example remains a sensible buy, especially for an active-speaker build, but there is room to negotiate if accessories are missing.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Hypex Electronics, founded in 1996 in the Netherlands, emerged from the live sound sector with plate amplifiers for loudspeakers before pivoting to hi-fi applications. Key innovator Bruno Putzeys developed the Universal class D (UcD) technology, patented through Philips, which propelled the company's early reputation for efficient, high-performance amplification. From modest origins supplying subwoofer modules and multichannel units with active crossovers, Hypex quickly gained traction among studio and audiophile manufacturers seeking superior class-D solutions.
The brand specializes in class-D power amplifier modules, power supplies, DSP solutions, and plate amplifiers, powering active speakers across hi-fi, high-end, and pro audio markets. Iconic lines like UcD and later NCore® deliver ultra-low distortion and exceptional efficiency, setting benchmarks for measured and subjective performance. While not producing complete speakers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Hypex modules form the backbone of systems from major OEM brands and enable DIY enthusiasts through Hypex Direct kits.
Hypex holds a commanding niche as a world-leading supplier in the high-end class-D segment, trusted by discerning audiophiles and professionals who demand uncompromising sound quality without traditional amp compromises. Its modules outperform legacy designs in efficiency and fidelity, positioning Hypex as the go-to for boutique builders and premium integrations, with production now in Malaysia to meet global demand.
