The Vitas 800 is a substantial, old-school German floorstander, and €50 for parts is a strong bargain if even one speaker is recoverable. Working used pairs commonly appear around €70–€150, with higher asking prices also seen, so this is comfortably below the normal market—but the “for parts” label means the value depends entirely on what is actually included and faulty.
They offer a big, energetic presentation from a three-way, bass-reflex design: high sensitivity, generous bass, and plenty of scale for rock, film soundtracks, or a modest amplifier. The multiple polypropylene mid/bass drivers and titanium tweeter also make them interesting donor candidates if a cabinet, crossover, or individual driver is damaged. Before collecting, confirm whether this is one speaker or a pair, test every driver separately, inspect the surrounds and terminals, and check for cabinet swelling or crossover damage; at €50, a repairable pair is an excellent punt.

HECO traces its roots to 1949, when Gerhard Richard Hennel and his wife Susanne founded Hennel & Co. KG in the German Taunus region town of Schmitten. Initially focused on manufacturing speaker chassis and baskets for cinemas and restaurants, the family business quickly pivoted to high-quality home audio, producing its first series-production speaker chassis in 1950 and the legendary compact B130 model by 1964. This heritage of German engineering precision has defined HECO for over seven decades, evolving through innovations like the 1951 Orchester Type C16 and early multichannel speaker sets.
The brand specializes in premium loudspeakers, with iconic series such as Superior (1987), Concerto Grosso, and Celan (launched 2005 and continually refined) anchoring its reputation. HECO has occasionally ventured into car audio with lines like Sprint and Turbo amplifiers in the 1990s, but its core strength remains floorstanding, bookshelf, and compact home speakers renowned for balanced, dynamic sound. Ambitious designs prioritize music reproduction in domestic settings, blending tradition with modern materials.
Positioned as a mid-to-high-end contender, HECO commands respect among discerning hi-fi enthusiasts for exceptional price-to-performance ratios, numerous test victories, and enduring series that rival pricier rivals. No longer a small family operation but part of Audio-Produkte GmbH, it sustains innovative momentum, delivering "true sound" that appeals to knowledgeable buyers seeking reliable German quality without ultra-boutique excess.
