Seller's Description

Sugden BD2 Turntable Connoisseur BD2 Turntable in finely tuned working condition. Includes NOS Nagaoka JT-311 cart ( IMO this is every bit as good as the current mp 110; more nuance less guts if that makes sense). Cosmetically very good for its age. These are an enthusiasts table requiring fitting of the rubber band suspension every few years, so if your not a bit handy look elsewhere. You wont get better SQ south of this price. Pickup is in Bendigo or I can hand deliver for the cost of petrol over a reasonable distance. Audition welcome. Also comes with original rather rare protractor card to

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This Sugden BD2 listing at A$270 is a genuine bargain, sitting well below the 25th percentile of A$1,626 for comparable used AUD listings, with the median at A$2,895. At less than 10% of the median asking price, this is an exceptional deal for a belt-drive turntable that enthusiasts consistently praise for its brilliant engineering and durability despite being a no-frills design from the late 60s/early 70s.

The BD2 made a significant impact for its era, offering excellent sound quality and reliability that many users recall as their first or favorite turntable. With the listing marked very_good condition and the price so far below market norms, this represents a clear buying opportunity for anyone seeking a proven, vintage performer without the premium usually attached to well-loved classics; the only material caveat to verify is whether the slight hum mentioned in some similar units has been resolved, though at this price point, even a minor fix remains a strong value.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Sugden

Sugden Audio: British Heritage and Class A Excellence

Sugden Audio was founded in 1967 by James Edward Sugden in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, as a division of Research Electronics, his earlier scientific instrument manufacturing company. Sugden's background in precision engineering and broadcast equipment design at EMI informed the company's founding philosophy of meticulous craftsmanship and sonic integrity. The brand has remained rooted in British manufacturing throughout its history, maintaining its West Yorkshire base and family involvement through successive generations, most recently under the stewardship of the Miller family alongside the long-term Sugden team.

The company is synonymous with Class A solid-state amplification, having pioneered this technology with the legendary A21 integrated amplifier in 1967—widely recognized as the first commercially produced pure Class A solid-state amplifier. Sugden's product portfolio centers on high-end electronics, particularly integrated and power amplifiers, alongside preamplifiers. The brand's design philosophy emphasizes minimalism and musicality over unnecessary features, captured in their tagline "Rescuing Music from technology." All products are hand-built to exacting standards, reflecting Sugden's commitment to quality over mass-market appeal.

Sugden occupies a distinctive position in high-end audio as a niche boutique manufacturer with deep credibility among serious audiophiles and collectors. The A21 remains in continuous production—now in its A21a iteration—making it one of the longest-running models in specialist hi-fi. Vintage Sugden equipment has become highly sought-after by collectors, while contemporary designs maintain the brand's reputation for sonic excellence and engineering precision that has defined British audio craftsmanship for nearly six decades.
