Sony SCD-EX800 SACD Player This is an excellent entry-level SACD player. I'm the second owner, and purchased it to play the few SACDs I have - thus very little used by me, but when used has played flawlessly. Not a lot of reviews out there, but good comments on various forums and Amazon if you wish to Google. Has a digital out, so can presumably be used as a CD transport. Has a European plug, but easily changed or use an adapter; comes with remote. Postage from Darwin included in the price. A$450 is ambitious against the recent used market: it sits well above the A$354 75th percentile and more than double the A$199 median, so it’s not a bargain by the numbers. For a buyer, that means you’d want strong justification in the form of verified condition, clean operation, and any useful extras before paying up.
That said, this is a well-regarded SACD player from Sony’s better late-era digital gear, and the appeal is straightforward: good red-book playback, proper SACD support, and the kind of solid, no-nonsense build that still attracts hi-fi buyers. If it’s genuinely excellent condition, with the original remote, box, and a proven transport, the premium is easier to defend; without those, I’d keep looking unless you specifically want this model.
