At €190, this is very overpriced against the recent used market: comparable Bose Companion 3 listings have a median of €99, with the upper quartile at €106. Even in excellent condition, this sits about €84 above the high end; a sensible target is roughly €95–€110, assuming the complete system is present.
The Companion 3 remains a capable compact desktop 2.1 system, with unusually spacious presentation, strong bass from the Acoustimass module, and a genuinely convenient wired control pod. It makes sense for a tidy computer or small-room setup, but it is an older design with no Bluetooth, and the control pod can develop noisy or erratic volume operation with age. At €190, excellent cosmetics do not compensate for the price; unless it is unusually complete, boxed, and demonstrably serviced, this is a pass rather than a buying opportunity.

Bose Corporation traces its roots to 1964, when MIT professor Amar Gopal Bose founded the company in Natick, Massachusetts, after growing disillusioned with the poor performance of a high-end stereo system he purchased as a graduate student. Driven by a passion for replicating the immersive qualities of live music through rigorous acoustic research, Bose launched the venture with initial contracts for the U.S. military and NASA, emphasizing innovative speaker designs that prioritized indirect, reverberant sound over direct radiation. This American heritage, rooted in psychoacoustics and engineering excellence, has defined the brand's pursuit of "Better Sound Through Research."
Bose excels in consumer and professional audio categories, renowned for its home audio systems, premium speakers like the iconic 901 Series, and pioneering noise-canceling headphones first prototyped in the 1980s for pilots. The lineup extends to vehicle sound systems, portable Bluetooth speakers, and professional installations, but steers clear of niche hi-fi components such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or cables, focusing instead on integrated, user-friendly solutions that blend advanced signal processing with spatial audio reproduction.
Positioned as a premium mid-tier powerhouse in the global market, Bose commands widespread appeal among discerning buyers seeking accessible high-performance audio without audiophile esoterica. Its reputation for innovation and reliability has built a loyal following, though purists occasionally critique its measured sound signature, cementing Bose as a dominant force in mainstream hi-fi rather than high-end boutique or vintage realms.
