At £50, this is a strong bargain against the comparable market: well below the £102 25th-percentile figure and dramatically under the £149 median. Even allowing for its modest reputation and 1970s age, the price leaves plenty of room for a little fettling.
The Integra 4000 is an appealingly characterful vintage integrated amplifier, with the period styling and straightforward analogue presentation that make these Amstrads fun system-builders rather than serious high-end statements. At this money it is especially worthwhile if it is working and includes its original controls or lid. Check that both channels are clean, the controls are not excessively noisy, and there is no persistent hum: repair examples have suffered failed preamp ICs and tired capacitors. If it passes a basic listening test, this is an easy recommendation for a vintage enthusiast.

Integra traces its roots to 1969, when Japanese audio pioneer Onkyo launched the brand to showcase its most prestigious electronics, emphasizing integration and fusion in high-performance systems. Evolving from a premium label under Onkyo, it became an independent division in 1999 or 2000, targeting custom installers with gear optimized for seamless home automation. Today, under the Premium Audio Company—recently acquired by Gentex—Integra maintains its Japanese heritage while expanding accessibility beyond specialist networks.
The brand specializes in premium AV receivers, processors, and home theater components, including multi-channel amplifiers like the DRX 5.4 with 120W power output per channel. Its lineup features CD, DVD, and Blu-ray players, all engineered for advanced integration via the proprietary Integra Serial Control Protocol (ISCP). Integra prioritizes expandability, multi-zone capabilities, and smart home compatibility over standalone speakers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables.
Positioned as a high-end choice for discerning custom integrators and home theater enthusiasts, Integra commands respect for its world-class build quality, innovative control features, and benchmark-setting performance. No longer confined to niche channels, it now appeals directly to knowledgeable buyers seeking robust, future-proof systems that rival the best in the industry.
