Seller's Description

It is from 2001 it does have some cosmetic scratches but all the words are clearly Visible and in working order it is a beast over 60 lbs I do not have the remote or mic only the power cord it does power on and works as it should

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Tested but missing the remote, this is a fair-to-good buy at US$300, not a bargain: it sits above the US$196 median but below the US$447 75th percentile for recent comparable listings. The lack of remote matters more here than with many receivers, since setup and MCACC adjustments are substantially easier with the original learning remote.

The VSX-49TX is a serious, overbuilt Elite receiver: 130 watts per channel, THX Ultra2 certification, strong multichannel amplification, excellent DACs, and unusually capable analog inputs for DVD-Audio/SACD-era systems. It remains appealing for a vintage home-theater or multichannel music rig, especially if “tested” includes all channels, inputs, display, and tuner. Verify that before buying, and budget for sourcing a remote; reports of main-board/no-sound issues make a thorough functional test important, but at this price a healthy example still represents solid value.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Pioneer

Pioneer traces its roots to 1937 in Tokyo, Japan, when founder Nozomu Matsumoto, inspired by the thrill of imported hi-fi speakers, developed the A-8 dynamic speaker and launched a radio and speaker repair shop. The business formalized as Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho in 1938, evolving into Pioneer Corporation and embodying Matsumoto's philosophy of "Move the Heart and Touch the Soul" through audio innovation.

The brand excels across diverse hi-fi categories, pioneering Japan's first headphones in 1960 with the SE-1 and the world's first component-based stereo system in 1965 via the PSC-5A. Pioneer's portfolio spans amplifiers, speakers, turntables, and DACs, alongside landmark car audio advancements like the 1975 Supertuner-equipped stereo and the 1986 in-car CD player, blending home and automotive excellence.

Today, Pioneer holds a commanding mid-to-high-tier position in the market, revered for reliable, performance-driven gear that balances premium quality with accessibility. Its vintage components attract collectors, while current offerings appeal to discerning buyers seeking robust, innovative sound reproduction without boutique excess.
