HiFiMan Sundara Headphones - Over/On Ear New to the brand, this was an experimental purchase. 12hrs usage logged so far. Have been careful to clean ears and hands prior to using and clean 'phones afterwards. Used with a Topping A70 Pro, the Sundaras have no functional issues, are non-fatiguing, don't creak and are comfortable to wear. I was sufficiently impressed and impetuous enough to arrange a demo of the Edition XS at A2A and have now ordered a pair of those. 🤪 Preference given to local buyers but also happy to post. Original double box packaging available for interstate buyers, postage
A$350 is above the typical used market for a Sundara here, sitting over the A$321 75th percentile, so I’d call it ambitious rather than fair.
That said, the Sundara is still a well-regarded planar for its clean detail, fast transients, and open, balanced tuning, so a tidy set can be a solid buy if you specifically want that sound. The upside is strongest if it includes the stock cable, adapter, box, and shows light use; without extras or with any wear, the price starts to look harder to justify versus the A$222–A$321 used band.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Hifiman traces its origins to 2005, when Dr. Fang Bian, a chemist with a lifelong passion for audio electronics, founded Head-Direct in the United States as an online retailer and headphone developer. By 2007, he rebranded to Hifiman, relocating manufacturing and R&D to Tianjin, China, while maintaining sales operations in the US and beyond. This fusion of American entrepreneurial drive and Chinese production expertise propelled the brand from modest in-ear monitors to global prominence.
The company specializes in high-end headphones, particularly planar-magnetic and electrostatic models renowned for their detail and soundstage, alongside complementary portable digital audio players, headphone amplifiers, and cables. Early milestones like the 2009 HM-801—the first pocket-sized high-resolution player—and the HE-5 planar headphones established its innovative edge, with co-founder Binwu He pioneering planar technology integration.
Hifiman commands a elite position in the audiophile market as a high-end leader, delivering reference-grade performance that rivals legacy brands. Its products earn consistent acclaim for transparency and musicality, appealing to discerning buyers seeking uncompromising planar transduction without vintage pretensions or mid-tier compromises.
