Condition: Used. Very good, some light pitting on front face (See photos)

Includes: Manual, Power Cable and Original Box

SN: 1006

Made In France

Overview

The Jadis JPL MkII is a stereo line preamplifier upgrades the original JPL design with tube-stabilised and regulated power supply, employing EL84 and EF86 valves to improve supply stability. The audio circuitry uses three ECC83 valves for the line inputs and a dedicated ECC82 valve for the CD input.

The 23dB line-stage gain and 25dB CD-input gain accommodate different source connections, while the revised power supply is intended to provide more stable operating conditions for the audio circuitry. The design retains the original JPL’s valve-based architecture while incorporating the updated power-supply regulation.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Recent comparable listings put the Jadis JPL at a median of A$5,892, with the upper quartile at A$8,696. At A$11,500, this example is clearly ambitious—roughly double the median and well beyond the normal asking range—so it would need exceptional provenance, condition, and accessories to justify the premium.

The JPL remains a desirable valve line stage: spacious, dynamically expressive, and capable of a broad 20Hz–70kHz response, with a buffered output that suits longer cable runs. Its relatively low 25W consumption and straightforward tube complement are practical positives. However, with condition listed as unknown, this is not a buying opportunity at the current figure. Verify whether it is the original JPL or MkII, inspect transformers and controls, confirm quiet operation, and establish recent tube and service history before even considering an offer.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Jadis Electronics

Jadis Electronics, founded in 1983 near Carcassonne in Villedubert, France, by self-taught valve amplifier designer André Calmettes alongside partner Jean-Paul Caffi, embodies a passion for recapturing the emotion of live music through tube technology. Born from Calmettes' amateur radio tinkering and inability to afford commercial amps, the brand quickly earned acclaim for its handmade craftsmanship, with every component meticulously selected and assembled. The name "Jadis," meaning "in olden days," evokes nostalgia while signaling a commitment to timeless excellence in French hi-fi heritage.

The company specializes in high-end valve amplification, producing pure class-A stereo and power amplifiers, preamplifiers, and RIAA phono stages, all handcrafted with proprietary output transformers. These transformers, wound by hand and encased in special resin for thermal stability and low noise, handle up to 2500 watts before saturation, ensuring absolute stability across any load. Jadis has expanded modestly into turntables, CD players, and DACs, maintaining a focus on analog warmth over digital proliferation, with no foray into speakers, headphones, or cables.

Positioned firmly in the high-end audiophile market, Jadis commands reverence as the "Rolls-Royce" of tube amps, prized by discerning collectors for its dynamic, uncolored sound and indestructible build—transformers even carry lifetime guarantees. Recent ownership changes, including Jérémie Malfroot's acquisition, preserve this boutique ethos amid global expansion, appealing to buyers seeking artisanal French mastery over mass production.
