Seller's Description

Harbeth M30.1 Bookshelf Loudspeakers An absolutely delightful set of speakers with matching Extrema stands, I thought this would be the last set of speakers I ever owned, matched with dual REL t7x subwoofers they were an absolute treat & covered everything I wanted them to with beautiful finesse you'd expect of harbeths.  85dB but I've managed to run them off a great variety of amps. Don't see a lot of the previous M30.1 models on here often. I bought them about 2 years ago from a gentleman on gumtree, they are in perfect condition without a single mark on them & I have absolutely babied them.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At this price, a used Harbeth M30.1 at AUD 3,650 sits a touch above the typical AUD 3,541–3,617 range from recent comparable Aussie listings, making it ambitious rather than a steal—think of it edging out entry-level standmounts like ProAc Tablettes that deliver similar detail for less, but without Harbeth's legendary midrange magic. The median hovers at AUD 3,579, so you'd want pristine condition to justify the stretch; otherwise, it's fair only if the unknowns (cabinet finish, foam decay) check out spotless.

Before biting, insist on close-up photos of the drivers—no tears or cone deformities—and a demo video confirming clean bass response from both woofers, as these BBC monitors from the 2000s can suffer surround rot or crossover fatigue after 20 years. Verify original grilles, spikes, and any service history are included; missing bits should knock the price back into bargain territory.[112 words]

About Harbeth

Harbeth Audio Ltd. traces its origins to 1977, when BBC Research Department engineer H.D. (Dudley) Harwood founded the company in the UK upon his retirement. Harwood, a pioneer in loudspeaker cone materials, commercialized his inventions—including polypropylene cones developed during four decades of BBC-funded research—to produce monitor speakers that echoed the broadcaster's precision standards. This heritage, rooted in the BBC's comprehensive loudspeaker investigations from the 1960s and 1970s, positioned Harbeth as a direct descendant of iconic designs like the LS3/5a.

The brand focuses exclusively on high-fidelity loudspeakers, eschewing amplifiers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables. Harbeth's innovations center on proprietary materials and engineering, notably the patented RADIAL™ cone introduced in the 1990s, which minimizes distortion for exceptional clarity and natural reproduction. Standout models include the Super HL5 Plus, Monitor 30.1, and Monitor 40.2, all refined through ongoing refinements to critically damped cabinets, polymeric cones, and crossover networks.

Harbeth commands a revered position in the high-end hi-fi market as a niche boutique specialist, prized by discerning audiophiles for its balanced, transparent sound that prioritizes musicality over hype. Under Alan Shaw's leadership since 1986, blending BBC traditions with rigorous quality control, it sustains an irrefutable reputation for world-class performance at low-to-medium volumes, earning critical acclaim worldwide.
