Against a newer streamer/DAC combination at this money, the €4,900 asking price is ambitious: it sits well above the three-comparable market’s €2,591 median and €3,745 75th percentile. For a used A1, that is a substantial premium, so it only makes sense with exceptional provenance, accessories, warranty, or near-mint presentation.
The appeal is real. The A1 remains a musically engaging, unusually substantial network player, with dual Wolfson DACs, a fully balanced analogue stage, transformer-coupled outputs, and a separate dual-toroidal power supply. It handles high-resolution PCM, DSD64, Qobuz, Tidal, Roon and AirPlay, and owners value its weighty, coherent presentation. Still, it is a discontinued, legacy design rather than a bargain at this level; verify firmware support, the external supply, remote, and both balanced and single-ended outputs before considering the premium.
