Seller's Description

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The MD 46 is a purpose-built reporter’s microphone rather than a general hi-fi vocal mic, but at €60 it is a genuine bargain: that sits well below the €94 25th-percentile used price, against a €148 median and €209 upper quartile. The included cable and case make the asking price especially attractive if everything is functional.

Its strengths are clear speech, strong off-axis rejection, and unusually low handling, wind, and pop noise thanks to the double-layer grille. The rugged metal body and long, well-balanced handle suit interviews, field recording, streaming, and even occasional announcing. It is a dynamic cardioid design, so phantom power is unnecessary, though a recorder with adequate gain helps. Check the XLR connector, cable continuity, grille condition, and capsule output; otherwise, this is an easy buy at the price.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Sennheiser

Founded in June 1945 by Dr. Fritz Sennheiser in a farmhouse near Hanover, Germany, Sennheiser began as Laboratorium Wennebostel, producing voltmeters and early microphones amid post-World War II reconstruction. Seven engineers from the University of Hannover joined the founder, quickly pivoting to broadcast microphones like the DM 2 in 1946 and the groundbreaking MD 82 shotgun mic in 1956. Renamed Sennheiser electronic in 1958, the family-owned company passed to second- and third-generation leadership, maintaining its innovative spirit over eight decades.

Sennheiser excels in professional and consumer audio, renowned for microphones, wireless systems, and headphones that set industry standards. Pioneers of the first open-back headphones (HD 414 in 1968) and enduring studio icons like the MD 421 and MD 441, they also produce high-end headphones, earbuds, soundbars, and conferencing solutions. While strong in pro audio like mixers and geophysical gear, their consumer focus centers on headphones and wireless tech rather than amplifiers, speakers, turntables, DACs, or cables.

Sennheiser commands a premium position in the hi-fi market, blending mid-tier accessibility with high-end excellence for discerning buyers and professionals. Trusted for reliability and sonic precision, it appeals to audiophiles seeking reference-grade headphones without boutique obscurity, backed by a heritage of technological firsts that sustains its global leadership.
