This unit was a floor model in a HiFi shop and had little use.It is in need of a power supply as it was sold without, and a new tonearm. The bearings on the current arm are shot/missing and a new arm is ~$1000 and can be purchased directly from McIntosh Laboratories in Binghamton, NY.Please feel free to ask any questions you have.
The MT2 is notable as McIntosh’s unusually approachable, factory-set turntable, and USD 1,200 looks like a strong deal rather than merely fair—assuming it is complete and functioning. Its original USD 4,000 price positioned it as a premium deck, so this level is compelling for a recognizable, well-built model. The unknown condition is the only reason not to call it an automatic bargain.
Its appeal is the heavy, vibration-resistant chassis, servo-controlled 33⅓/45-rpm operation, and largely plug-and-play arm-and-cartridge setup. It delivers the warm, smooth McIntosh presentation without demanding specialist alignment, and the included cartridge can usually feed either MM or suitable MC phono inputs. Before buying, confirm the external power supply, clamp, dust cover, cartridge/stylus condition, stable speed, and clean cueing; replacing a worn stylus is the main likely expense.

McIntosh Laboratory, founded in 1949 in the United States by Frank H. McIntosh and Gordon Gow, embodies a storied heritage of American audio innovation. Originally based in Silver Spring, Maryland, before relocating to Binghamton, New York, where products are still handcrafted today, the brand emerged from a commitment to superior sound reproduction. From powering President Lyndon Johnson's inauguration to the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound at Woodstock, McIntosh has shaped pivotal moments in music history and pop culture, earning its place as a cultural icon.
The company specializes in a comprehensive lineup of high-fidelity components, including renowned amplifiers—particularly its revered tube models for their warm, enveloping sound—along with solid-state power amps, stereo tuners, loudspeakers, turntables, music streamers, processors, and digital-to-analog converters. This breadth supports both two-channel stereo systems and multi-channel home theaters, delivering immersive experiences in music and film. Iconic blue watt meters on their gear have become globally recognized symbols of precision and power.
Positioned firmly in the high-end market, McIntosh commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its uncompromising quality, luxurious build, and timeless design. Far from mid-tier or niche boutique, it stands as a premium benchmark, favored by legendary musicians and producers across decades, blending vintage allure with modern performance for those who demand the ultimate in sonic fidelity.
