The MK II is a late-1990s design, with newer Atlas Compact generations now available, so its age matters mainly for driver and crossover condition rather than obsolescence. At €1,500, though, this is clearly ambitious: it sits far above the €574 75th-percentile asking price, versus a €225 median and €113 lower quartile for comparable used examples. It is not a market bargain unless this is an exceptional, fully restored pair.
The appeal is substantial: these are serious four-way, high-sensitivity German floorstanders with huge dynamic capability, powerful bass, and the scale to fill a large room convincingly. The MK II’s reputation is well earned, and complete, original examples can attract enthusiasts. At this money, insist on a flawless pair, healthy TIW 360 woofers and midrange units, intact cabinets and grilles, and documented crossover work; otherwise, negotiate hard toward the normal market rather than paying collector-level pricing.

Atlas Cables emerged from Scotland's vibrant hi-fi scene in 2000, rooted in the expertise of industry veteran John Carrick, who developed value-driven cable lines for the British retailer Mountain Snow in the 1990s. A group of five dealers acquired the brand in 2003, rebranding it as Atlas Scotland Ltd. and propelling its growth from those early successes. Today, headquartered in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, the independent UK-owned company designs and handcrafts nearly all its products on-site, embodying a quarter-century commitment to Scottish engineering precision.
The brand specializes exclusively in high-performance cables and accessories, spanning interconnects, speaker cables, digital links, power cords, and specialized components like tonearm cables. eschewing amplifiers, speakers, or source gear in favor of eliminating signal loss between system elements. Their philosophy distills cable design to five essentials—conductor, dielectric, connector, screening, and manufacturing—using premium materials such as Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) and superior Ohno Continuous Cast (OCC) variants for open, accurate, natural sound.
Atlas holds a respected niche in the high-end market as a boutique specialist, earning global acclaim through award-winning lines like Mavros and Asimi, distributed in over 30 countries. Knowledgeable audiophiles value its no-nonsense, hand-built quality that punches above its price, positioning it as a go-to for system upgrades without hype or excess.
