Seller's Description

Laney tf800 tube fusion guitar amplifier head and cabinet 4x4 stack Guitar Amplifier I bought this new for $2500 in 2002. To put that in to perspective, I also bought a valiant charger that year for $3500. This amp works great, has 4 channels and really nice reverb. It's a big gigging amp. Grey speaker cloth fabric makes it look even more retro. I loved this amp and it was what brought me to play in some great bands. Unfortunately moving to an apartment and I just don't have the room If you like the Laney sound, it will be hard to beat this. Condition: Excellent Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, P

# Laney TF800 Tube Fusion Amplifier – Buyer Notes

Price Assessment

At AUD $700, this Laney TF800 sits well above your typical used market baseline. Comparable recent listings show a median asking price of AUD $390, with the 75th percentile reaching AUD $1,670—so this unit lands in the upper-middle territory. The TF800 is a solid mid-range tube amp from Laney's Fusion line, but unless it's in exceptional condition with original documentation and all tubes tested, AUD $700 feels optimistic. Vintage tube amps have held value reasonably well, but the asking price assumes either pristine cosmetics, low hours, or a rare variant. Verify the serial number against Laney's production records and cross-check current listings on reverb-style platforms to confirm whether AUD $700 reflects the actual secondhand market or dealer markup.

Key Checks Before Buying

Request a full tube inventory and recent bias measurements—worn output tubes are the most common failure point on these older Fusion heads and can cost AUD $150–300 to replace properly. Confirm the cabinet hasn't been reconed or heavily repaired; original speakers hold value, but replacements signal either abuse or age-related fatigue. Ask about the power transformer's condition (any hum or intermittent crackling is a red flag) and whether the original footswitch and manual are included. If either is missing, deduct accordingly from your offer.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Fusion Research

Fusion Research is a niche boutique brand in the custom integration and digital audio space, founded in 2003 by a team of successful entrepreneurs passionate about digital entertainment systems. Headquartered in Northern California with engineering offices in Maryland, the company emerged from expertise in digital imaging, audio processing, storage, networking, and control protocols. This American outfit quickly carved a focused path in the residential and commercial AV markets, leveraging open IP-based products to address emerging demands for seamless media handling.

The brand specializes in high-performance music servers and media controllers, most notably its Ovation series, which deliver robust streaming capabilities independent of legacy platforms like MySqueezebox. Products like the Ovation Duet and Summit OS servers support direct integrations with services such as Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, and TIDAL, alongside pioneers like DTS Play-Fi for wireless speaker control. Fusion also ventured into commercial applications with SoundMachine, an affordable, controllable music server tailored for public spaces, emphasizing reliability in networked environments over traditional hi-fi categories like amplifiers, speakers, or analog sources.

Positioned as a specialist in the custom install market, Fusion Research holds a strong reputation among professional integrators for durable, future-proof digital audio solutions rather than consumer high-end hi-fi. It's not a vintage collector's darling or broad-spectrum audiophile marque but a go-to for sophisticated, controllable streaming in upscale homes and businesses, thriving on technical innovation amid volatile media landscapes.
