Seller's Description

Spendor D7 Floorstanding Loudspeakers I picked up these lovely speakers two years ago from another member. Thanks to their moderate (90db) sensitivity, I've used them with amps including a 20 wpc SET and a 150w solid state amp. The D7s are transparent enough to bring out the nuances with each piece of equipment I've placed upstream, and they have sounded excellent with each one - wonderfully detailed with lush mids and well-balanced bass.   The D7s have received many excellent reviews, a few of which are copied below, including from Stereophile (category A recommended). Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a seller’s market only if you’re chasing one of the cheaper end of the range; at A$3,600, this sits above the A$2,964 median but well inside the A$1,256–A$6,670 middle spread, so I’d call it fair to slightly firm, not a steal and not overpriced. For a clean pair in excellent condition, the number is still reasonable for a patient buyer who wants to move now rather than wait for a bargain.

These are widely respected speakers: they’re known for a smooth, natural midrange, easy listenability, and good scale without sounding clinical. The upside here is the stated excellent condition, which matters on a speaker this revealing; if the grilles, drivers, and cabinets are truly tidy, it’s the kind of buy that should age well. I’d just verify driver condition, serial match, and whether stands, boxes, or original packaging are included if you care about resale.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Spendor

Spendor, a quintessential British hi-fi brand, traces its origins to the late 1960s when BBC sound engineer Spencer Hughes and his wife Dorothy founded the company in Sussex, England—the name itself a clever fusion of "Spen" and "Dor." Drawing on Spencer's expertise alongside co-designer Dudley Harwood, they pioneered the BC1 loudspeaker in 1969, featuring the world's first commercial 8-inch plastic cone driver made from innovative Bextrene material. This breakthrough quickly established Spendor as the monitor of choice for broadcasters, recording studios, and discerning listeners worldwide, setting a benchmark for transparent, natural sound.

The brand focuses exclusively on loudspeakers, designing, engineering, and hand-building every driver, crossover, and cabinet in their Sussex facility. Their lineup spans the accessible A series for mainstream buyers, the premium D series for high-end performance, and the Classic line, which revives iconic designs like the BC1 with modern polymer and Kevlar cones, cast-magnesium chassis, and advanced motor systems. Spendor eschews amplifiers, turntables, or headphones, prioritizing pure speaker innovation rooted in BBC-honed precision.

Today, under owner Philip Swift since 2000, Spendor holds a revered position as a high-end, heritage British marque, blending vintage collector appeal with contemporary excellence. Renowned among audiophiles and professionals for smooth, low-distortion imaging and musicality, it remains a global reference standard, entirely made in the UK to captivate serious hi-fi enthusiasts.
