Seller's Description

Naim Audio NAC 272 Streaming Pre-amplifier Mint condition, one of the last ever built (June 2020, confirmed with Naim customer support). Bought new in 2022, spent its entire life in a Naim system, in my home office, playing jazz, blues and the occasional country. No longer have the original box but will be shipped in a Tactix heavy duty case and the original box sticker will be included. Also included is the WA5 5dB gain Antenna. The power cable is a standard cheap one (never used it), I can include it if required.   The unit is a Preamplifier (with a pure class A headphones output) with digit

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At A$2,800, this like-new Naim NAC-N 272 sits just below the 75th percentile of A$2,959 but remains a compelling alternative to buying a separate streamer and preamp at this price point. Based on 14 recent AUD comparables, the median is A$2,047, so this listing is ambitiously priced yet not irrational given the pristine condition. It’s fair to call it a strong opportunity for someone who values Naim’s signature sound and seamless integration without the hassle of matching separate units.

The NAC-N 272 is widely respected for its musicality, robust streaming up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD64, and Naim’s intuitive app control. Its slim, high-end chassis and DIN connectivity make it a standout in compact hi-fi setups. With “like_new” condition and no noted caveats, this is a buy for enthusiasts who prioritize build quality and sonic character over hitting the lowest market price. If you’re upgrading from a basic DAC/streamer combo, the upside in coherence and refinement is immediate.

About Naim Audio

Naim Audio, a cornerstone of British hi-fi excellence, traces its origins to 1973 when Julian Vereker, a self-taught engineer, racing driver, and music enthusiast, formally incorporated the company in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Vereker's journey began earlier, in 1969, experimenting with tape recording and sound-to-light boxes before designing his first power amplifier in 1971. Amid the British hi-fi industry's recession, he secured a pivotal contract with Capital Radio, blending entrepreneurial grit with a passion for authentic sound reproduction that challenged conventional wisdom.

The brand specializes in premium integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, digital streamers, DACs, and compact music systems, often featuring built-in amplification for streamlined setups. While not delving into speakers—beyond a historical foray—or headphones and turntables, Naim emphasizes modular, upgradable components that prioritize pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT), a signature sonic philosophy rooted in the "source first" approach alongside contemporaries like Linn.

Naim holds a commanding position in the high-end market, revered by discerning audiophiles for its handmade, innovative systems that deliver emotional musical engagement over mere specifications. Now part of VerVent Audio Group following a 2011 merger with Focal, it exports to over 45 countries, sustaining a cult following for resilient, influential designs that transcend economic cycles.
