Seller's Description

Duntech D200 Standmount Loudspeakers I can honestly say I was not looking to change these until a stumbled across a bigger pair of Duntechs last September. The owner of those speakers initially was going to sell but then changed his mind - which I completely understood at the time - but lucky for me he contacted me recently to say he was not using them as much as he hoped and would sell - so i am upgrading to bigger Duntechs.   The viscounts d200 have incredible mid range and when properly integrated with a quality subwoofer will hold their own against their bigger counterparts. The advantage

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Duntech D200 standmounts at AUD $2,000 with original stands is ambitious for the used market. These vintage Sovereign-series speakers from the '80s typically trade hands in AUD $1,200–1,800 in good condition, depending on driver originality and cabinet finish—bargains under AUD $1,500 pop up occasionally for lightly used pairs, but pristine examples with stands nudge toward AUD $2,000 only if recently recapped.

Buyers should verify the crossover capacitors haven't degraded (common in 30+ year-old Duntech gear, causing midrange haze) and measure driver excursion for surround integrity beyond visual checks. Insist on original grille cloths and serial-matched stands, as mismatches signal rebuilds. Test with your amp for impedance dips around 4 ohms.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Duntech

Duntech Audio traces its origins to John Dunlavy, who founded the company in Dallas, Texas in the late 1970s as Audio Standards before it became Duntech Audio. In 1981, the entire operation relocated to Adelaide, South Australia, where it established itself as a privately held, wholly Australian-owned corporation. The company's early history included expertise in antenna systems dating back to 1963, knowledge that informed its transition into high-end loudspeaker design. The company's first wall-mounted loudspeaker entered production in 1982, claimed as the world's first full-range, audiophile-quality design of its kind.

Duntech specializes exclusively in loudspeakers, positioning itself firmly in the ultra-premium segment. The brand gained international recognition with its flagship Sovereign 2001 loudspeaker, introduced in 1986 and retailing at $15,000 per pair. These towering, sealed-box designs became known for their time and phase coherence, earning praise from audio experts for reproduction described as "the closest approximation to the live musical event." The company's design philosophy emphasizes precision engineering and acoustic purity over conventional approaches.

Today, Duntech occupies a niche position as a boutique high-end manufacturer with significant collector and enthusiast appeal. Under current ownership since 2004, the brand has continued producing legacy Sovereign models while developing new designs including the Senator and Princess loudspeaker systems. Duntech maintains its reputation for uncompromising engineering standards and remains respected among discerning audiophiles who prioritize acoustic accuracy and heritage craftsmanship over mass-market accessibility.
