Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Should you jump on it at A$3,000? For a like-new pair of these, yes — this sits in the fair-to-good zone rather than feeling stretched. I can’t pin an exact Australia-wide median from the available data, but the model’s historical new pricing was around A$5,200 for the earlier Special Twenty-Five, and the Special Forty is the more current, highly regarded evolution of that family, so A$3,000 is a sensible used ask rather than an aggressive one.

What makes it worth buying is the usual Dynaudio mix: smooth, refined treble, excellent midrange texture, and enough scale and control to sound genuinely high-end without being fussy about genre. In like-new condition, the upside is strong if the boxes are clean, fully working, and come with original packaging or stands; that helps preserve resale and makes the price easier to defend.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Dynaudio

Dynaudio is a Danish loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1977 in Skanderborg by acoustic engineers Wilfried Ehrenholz and Mark Thorup, alongside co-founder Ivan Scarning Geard. The company emerged from a conviction that off-the-shelf speakers of the era failed to reproduce music authentically. From its inception, Dynaudio has maintained vertical integration, designing and manufacturing its own drivers rather than sourcing components externally—a practice that remains central to the brand's identity and quality control.

The company specializes exclusively in loudspeakers and speaker systems across two primary markets: high-fidelity consumer audio and professional studio monitoring. Dynaudio's consumer division produces reference-grade speakers for discerning listeners, while its professional subsidiary, Dynaudio Acoustics, manufactures studio monitors installed in more than ten thousand recording studios worldwide. The brand has earned particular distinction as a reference monitor choice for BBC Radio & Music, underscoring its credibility in professional environments.

Dynaudio occupies the high-end segment of the audio market, positioning itself among premium manufacturers rather than mass-market producers. The brand's reputation rests on uncompromising engineering philosophy—prioritizing authentic driver design over superficial aesthetics—and consistent innovation in loudspeaker technology. Since its acquisition by Chinese electronics company Goertek in 2014, Dynaudio has maintained its Danish heritage and manufacturing practices while expanding its global reach. For knowledgeable buyers, Dynaudio represents a convergence of Scandinavian design sensibility, technical rigor, and professional-grade performance in the consumer hi-fi space.
