The ECC803s is a hi-performance 12AX7 that has a spiral wound filament to reduce noise and hum. The plates of the tube are longer compared to most 12AX7 tubes. This over sized plate structure improves details in the bass and low mid-range responses.
Compared with a typical A$40 used asking price, this at A$39 is essentially fair value, just a touch under the median and comfortably inside the normal band. It is not a bargain on the percentile data alone, but it is close enough to market that a clean example would be an easy yes if you want this tube.
This is a respected ECC803S variant, prized for low noise, balanced gain, and the kind of detailed, refined presentation that suits phono stages, line stages, and other sensitive spots in a system. At this price, the appeal is in getting a well-regarded current-production tube without paying a big premium; if it tests strong and has sensible remaining life, it is a solid buy for anyone chasing a cleaner, more articulate swap-in.

JJ Electronic traces its roots to 1993, when Jan Jurco founded the company in Čadca, Slovakia, initially as a modest garage operation within the former Tesla factory. Drawing on Eastern Europe's deep vacuum tube heritage from the Tesla era, it rapidly expanded from producing just three tube types in 1994 to over 40 models today, all developed in-house by dedicated engineering teams. What began with 700 square meters of production space has grown to more than 12,000, reflecting a commitment to reviving and refining classic tube manufacturing techniques.
The brand specializes in vacuum tubes—preamp, power, and rectifier varieties—for guitar amplifiers, hi-fi systems, recording studios, and audiophile applications. Since 1999, it has broadened into electrolytic and polypropylene capacitors, plus a select lineup of high-end tube amplifiers, including four power models and two preamps, all globally safety-certified. These components emphasize durability, musicality, and modern quality control in traditionally handcrafted designs.
JJ Electronic holds a strong mid-tier position in the hi-fi and pro audio markets, prized for reliable, affordable tone that rivals pricier alternatives without sacrificing consistency. Guitarists, restorers, and discerning listeners turn to its tubes for vintage-inspired performance in both live gear and home setups, cementing its reputation as a go-to modern successor to historic Eastern Bloc expertise.
