Seller's Description

Triangle Electroacoustique Comete 202 Standmount Loudspeakers A well used pair of Triangle Comete 202  speakers with issues...   At low levels they still sound nice, but once the volume increases you can just hear something isn't quite right.   Both mid/bass drivers have this faint softness - voice coil damage? I don't know.   One speakers bass driver has had the plastic centre cut out and is taped into place.   I have contacted Triangle in France and there are replacement drivers available for $200 at "Audio Marketing" Sydney   The tweeters TZ 202 still work well, and the price reflects their

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Is A$120 worth a listen? For these Triangle Comete 202s, yes — that’s a strong bargain. Comparable Triangle Comete models have sold new around A$1,100–A$1,600 in today’s money, and even used pairs usually sit well above A$120 when working and complete, so this is firmly on the low end.

What makes them appealing is the lively Triangle sound: high sensitivity, easy drive, front port, and a presentation that tends to be quick, open, and dynamic with good imaging for the size. At this price, the main thing to check is simply condition: both drivers working cleanly, no rubbing, no cabinet damage, and intact tweeter. If they’re healthy, this is a very good buy.

About Triangle Electroacoustique

Triangle Electroacoustique is a French loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1980 by Renaud de Vergnettes, a Paris-based designer who abandoned a promising career in interior design to pursue his passion for high-fidelity sound. Beginning with prototype experiments in a garage, Vergnettes developed an innovative two-module speaker design featuring a decoupled woofer cabinet paired with a pyramid-shaped midrange and treble section. The company relocated to Soissons, where it has remained headquartered and maintained manufacturing operations for over four decades, establishing itself as one of France's most significant acoustic specialists.

Triangle's product portfolio centers exclusively on loudspeakers across multiple performance tiers. The brand became known for highly efficient drivers, horn-loaded tweeters, and a characteristically lively, dynamic sound signature that reflects French hi-fi aesthetics. Early models like the Minimum bookshelf speaker defined a generation of audiophile listening, while the company's reference-grade Magellan series—including the Concerto and Grand Concert models—demonstrated advanced technical expertise. Throughout its evolution, Triangle has maintained a commitment to hand-assembled construction and proprietary driver technology manufactured in-house.

Triangle occupies a distinctive position as a respected mid-to-high-end manufacturer with strong European credibility and growing international recognition. The brand appeals to discerning listeners seeking musically engaging speakers with distinctive character rather than clinical neutrality. Its longevity, commitment to French manufacturing, and consistent design philosophy have earned Triangle a devoted following among vintage audio enthusiasts and contemporary audiophiles alike, positioning it as a serious alternative to mainstream high-end brands while maintaining accessibility relative to ultra-premium segments.
