Seller's Description

Naim Audio HICAP DR Linear Power Supply I have owned since new. 2013 manufacture.   HICAP DR was the second HICAP I had powering my NAC 282. The DIN links for left and right audio were changed from DIN to RCA out for greater flexibility using non NAIM cables... That conversion was completed by NAIM Factory technician.   It's been on my NAIM rack its entire life.   Comes in NAIM packaging  Condition: 9/10 Payment Method: cash on pickup Region/State: (NSW) New South Wales/Australia By lsulliva 2 Comments   AUD $900 Date: May 15, 20241 yr

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a buyer’s market for used Naim power supplies, and A$900 looks fair-to-good rather than a steal. In the European examples above, HiCap DR units were changing hands around A$1,400 to A$1,600 when converted to AUD, so A$900 sits meaningfully below that typical level and is well inside bargain territory if the unit is healthy.

The reason it’s worth chasing is simple: the HiCap DR is one of the more effective upgrades in Naim’s ecosystem, adding grip, drive, and scale without changing the brand’s rhythmic character. That makes it especially appealing for Naim preamps and source components that benefit from cleaner external power. Main things to confirm are the exact compatibility, whether it includes the correct Burndy/DIN leads if relevant to your setup, and that the seller can demonstrate stable operation, since age and provenance matter more than cosmetics here.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Naim Audio

Naim Audio, a cornerstone of British hi-fi excellence, traces its origins to 1973 when Julian Vereker, a self-taught engineer, racing driver, and music enthusiast, formally incorporated the company in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Vereker's journey began earlier, in 1969, experimenting with tape recording and sound-to-light boxes before designing his first power amplifier in 1971. Amid the British hi-fi industry's recession, he secured a pivotal contract with Capital Radio, blending entrepreneurial grit with a passion for authentic sound reproduction that challenged conventional wisdom.

The brand specializes in premium integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, digital streamers, DACs, and compact music systems, often featuring built-in amplification for streamlined setups. While not delving into speakers—beyond a historical foray—or headphones and turntables, Naim emphasizes modular, upgradable components that prioritize pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT), a signature sonic philosophy rooted in the "source first" approach alongside contemporaries like Linn.

Naim holds a commanding position in the high-end market, revered by discerning audiophiles for its handmade, innovative systems that deliver emotional musical engagement over mere specifications. Now part of VerVent Audio Group following a 2011 merger with Focal, it exports to over 45 countries, sustaining a cult following for resilient, influential designs that transcend economic cycles.
