Seller's Description

Parasound A23 Power Amplifier Excellent condition Parasound A23 THX Power Amplifier.    Zero issues.   125w @ 8ohms, 2 channels driven. 200w @ 4ohms, 2 channels driven.   Very powerful, and has enough juice to make difficult to drive speakers sing.   Paired well with KEF LS50, Proac 1SC, Elac BS244 and Buchardt S400 in my testing.   Much better than my Unison Unico Primo, which was amazing, but ended up selling due to liking this amp better.  This amp has the power, authority, clarity and timing, without any harshness.   Only selling as I'm so impressed, I would like to see what the higher end

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Verdict: Strong value, but condition is your wildcard. Unknown condition at AUD $999 puts this in the ballpark of fair pricing for a used A23—typical secondhand examples trade between AUD $800–$1,400 depending on age and cosmetics. If this unit is genuinely clean and functional, you're looking at a solid buy. The A23 holds value well, and at this price point you're not overpaying for the John Curl circuit and 125-watt-per-channel grunt. The catch is that unknown condition is a red flag; push the seller hard for specifics before committing.

Before you bid, nail down the actual condition and verify the amp powers up cleanly across both channels. Request photos of the front panel, rear connectors, and interior if possible—look for dust, corrosion, or burn marks. Confirm all original accessories (manual, box if relevant) are included, and ask how long it's been in storage. Factory-refreshed units command a premium, so if this is just a random used piece, expect some wear. Get a clear return window in writing; a dead channel or intermittent hum discovered after purchase is a costly surprise with a power amp.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Parasound

Parasound, an enduring American hi-fi brand, traces its roots to 1981 when Richard Schram founded it in San Francisco, California. Drawing from his experience in consumer electronics retail and engineering trips to Asia, Schram aimed to bridge the gap between exorbitantly priced high-end gear and lackluster budget options. His vision crystallized through savvy U.S. design paired with cost-effective manufacturing in Taiwan, establishing Parasound as a beacon of accessible excellence from the outset.

The brand excels in amplifiers and preamplifiers, its core stronghold, with the acclaimed Halo series embodying decades of refinement. Iconic collaborations with legendary designer John Curl—starting in 1989—elevate power amps, phono stages like the JC3+, and processors to reference-level performance. While not venturing into speakers, turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Parasound's focused lineup delivers uncolored, dynamic sound through innovative circuits and robust builds.

Parasound occupies a prime mid-to-high-end niche, revered for punching far above its price weight with reliability that rivals pricier boutique rivals. Audiophiles and critics praise its value-driven sonic fidelity, build quality, and longevity, fostering fierce loyalty worldwide. Even under new ownership since 2022, it remains the discerning buyer's choice for high-performance audio without prestige-driven excess.
