Seller's Description

The Harman Kardon HK 3480 is a high-current, 2-channel stereo receiver designed for music enthusiasts who want significant power and modern styling. It delivers 120 watts per channel at 8Ω and up to 150 watts at 4Ω, making it capable of driving demanding speakers with ease. Released around 2006, it is well-regarded for its robust build and the signature "blue-halo" illuminated volume control. As was standard in 2006, this unit features RCA in's/out's (NOT HDMI) and also features a Phono-stage preamp, so you can co-mingle vinyl with CDs, it also features THREE Video/Aux inputs, plus Preamp in's/out's with jumpers. Amazingly, for a 20 year-old piece, it also comes with the original, functional OEM h/k remote control.Cosmetic Condition: We graded this at Good; there is a small blemish just beneath the harman/kardon logo and a few scratches on the back panel where the AC Switched outlets are (see photos of both, above) High Current Capability (HCC): Features a 45-amp current capacity to handle wide dynamic ranges and complex speaker loads.Connectivity: Includes seven audio inputs, four video inputs (composite switching), and a high-quality MM phono stage for turntables.VMAx Technology: A proprietary signal-processing mode intended to simulate a wider, theater-like sound field using only two speakers.Pre-out/Main-in Jacks: Allows for the use of external power amplifiers or signal processors, providing a clear upgrade path.Subwoofer Output: Features dedicated stereo subwoofer outputs for 2.1-channel configurations.Tuner: Built-in AM/FM digital tuner with 30 programmable station presets and RDS capability. Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Is US$190 the right spend for a solid, no-fuss stereo receiver with phono? For an HK3480, that’s fair-to-slightly-strong rather than a steal. Recent used examples have shown up around US$75 plus shipping, while refurbished units have been offered around US$188, so this asking price sits near the practical top end of the used market unless it’s exceptionally clean, fully tested, and includes the remote.

What makes it worth considering is the HK3480’s reputation for clean, punchy sound, real 2-channel power, and a decent built-in phono stage, which makes it a handy all-in-one hub for a vinyl setup. It’s a sleeper choice if you want authority without audiophile fuss. At this price, I’d want confirmation that the controls are quiet, both channels are healthy, and the phono input works properly; if those check out, it’s still a sensible buy.

About Harman Kardon

Harman Kardon traces its origins to 1953, when Dr. Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon, both engineers frustrated with conservative audio manufacturing at the David Bogen Company, invested $5,000 each to launch their venture in Westbury, New York. Their debut product, the Festival D1000, became the world's first compact AM/FM hi-fi receiver, blending breakthrough technology with sleek design to make high-fidelity sound accessible beyond technical enthusiasts. Pioneering innovations like the 1958 Festival TA230 stereo receiver, the 1959 Citation II ultra-wide bandwidth tube amplifier, and the 1970 CAD5 hi-fi cassette recorder with Dolby noise reduction cemented their legacy in simplifying premium audio for the home.

The brand focuses on integrated receivers, amplifiers, tuners, and speakers that emphasize performance, reliability, and elegant industrial design. Over decades, it expanded into home theater systems and automotive audio, powering systems in vehicles from Land Rover and BMW to Volvo and Polestar. While not delving into turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables, Harman Kardon prioritizes cohesive hi-fi components that deliver warm, detailed sound without unnecessary complexity.

Harman Kardon holds a solid mid-tier position in the hi-fi market, renowned among knowledgeable buyers for its enduring quality and value rather than ultra-high-end exotica or vintage collector status. Now part of Harman International, it appeals to discerning listeners seeking dependable, stylish gear that echoes its innovative heritage without commanding boutique premiums.
