Housed in a custom made Rega half width case, the AOS will deliver exceptional definition and greater realism to all of your recordings, bringing your favourite vinyl to life. Designed to work with a wide range of moving coil cartridges it has plenty of gain for low output MC’s and excellent load adjustability making it the perfect partner for whichever Moving Coil you are using.Pure AnalogueThe AOS is a two stage “all analogue amplifier” with no digital control circuitry. The fully aluminium case screens the internal circuit from any stray RFI signals. Our designers have avoided including any unnecessary components or circuits that may degrade the signal path. The AOS incorporates many innovative design ideas including a self-adjusting servo control which compensates for any variations in ambient or operating temperature. The AOS utilises parallel connected, low noise FETs (Field Effect Transistors) configured as a compound pair. The use of FET transistors ensures there is no bias current flowing in the cartridge coil so as not to upset the delicate magnetic geometry of the cartridge. The MC input has the provision for selecting resistive input loading of 70 Ω to 400 Ω and capacitive loading of 1000 pF to 4300 pF. The input sensitivity can be changed by 6 dB via the back panel. An automatic standby feature has also been added which puts the unit to sleep after a period of no signal. This can be deactivated via dip switches located on the rear panel.Key FeaturesDedicated moving coil phono stageFully adjustable for loadingFactory pre-set for use with all Rega MC cartridgesCircuit design based on the Reference Aura MCCustom aluminium design half width caseAutomatic standby functionLifetime warranty against manufacture defectsFirst Stage: The first stage is a symmetrical, complementary class A amplifier, using Linear Systems ultra-low noise FET (Field Effect Transistor) transistors. The use of FET transistors ensures there is no bias current flowing in the cartridge coil so as not to upset the delicate magnetic geometry of the cartridge. The input circuit configuration also alleviates the use of any coupling components between the cartridge output and the input stage FET transistors, which would degrade the sound. The complementary ultra-low noise FET transistors are carefully graded and matched for optimum performance. This stage drives the passive high-frequency part of the RIAA equalisation stage. Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At USD1,816 for a "new" Rega AOS MC, this sits ambitiously high against the fresh retail of around USD2,299, especially since used or barely touched examples should trade closer to USD1,600-1,900 in today's market—bargains under USD1,700 pop up for early units with full boxes. It's no steal unless pristine provenance backs the "new" claim, but Rega's build quality holds value well if you're chasing that Aura-derived detail without the five-figure hit.

Buyers, verify the rear dip switches haven't been fiddled with—those screwdriver-adjusted loading settings (70-400Ω resistance, 1000-4300pF capacitance) are finicky and prone to user error causing noise or mismatch with your MC cart. Confirm original packaging, manual, and lifetime warranty docs are included, plus test for hum-free operation on your arm—early 2026 stock might still carry that new-unit RFI shielding edge.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Rega

Rega Research, founded in 1973 in Essex, England, by Roy Gandy and Tony Relph, emerged from Gandy's lifelong passion for vinyl playback. A Ford engineer and music enthusiast, Gandy built his first turntable, the Planet, in his spare time, blending the founders' surnames to create the Rega name. From humble beginnings in a derelict mill, the company quickly gained traction with early models like the Planar 2 and Planar 3, establishing its heritage as a British hi-fi pioneer dedicated to precision engineering and hand-assembly.

Rega specializes in turntables and tonearms, its cornerstone products, but has expanded into a full ecosystem including cartridges, integrated amplifiers like the Elicit and Brio, phono stages such as the Fono, and speakers like the Ela series. While early efforts included loudspeakers and electronics from the 1980s onward, the brand prioritizes vinyl-centric components over headphones, DACs, or cables, all designed in-house for musical fidelity using specialist materials and tight tolerances.

Rega holds a revered position in the high-end hi-fi market as a niche boutique icon, prized by audiophiles for affordable, lifetime-quality performance that emphasizes music over gimmicks. Globally exported to over 50 countries from its Essex facility employing more than 150, it remains a symbol of British ingenuity, with turntables like the Planar series securing enduring loyalty among vinyl revivalists.
