The best benchmark here is a recent active listing around US$435, while documented sold examples were closer to US$100–US$125 shipped, and the model’s original price isn’t enough to justify a premium on its own. So unless this one is exceptionally original, freshly serviced, or bundled with standout extras, I’d call the ask ambitious rather than a bargain.
That said, the JL-B31 is a respected mid-70s Victor/JVC direct drive with a solid motor platform and attractive wood-plinth styling, so it can be a very satisfying daily spinner when healthy. The upside is rarity and the chance to get a distinctive Japanese deck that sits a bit above the usual mass-market suspects. I’d want clear proof of speed stability, arm function, and cosmetic condition at this price, plus confirmation of the headshell, mat, dustcover, and whether it’s been serviced.
