Unit fully tested and in great working condition. Some minor scuffs abd scratchesIncludes: Pre amp and power cable
At USD419 for an Acurus ACT-3 preamp-processor (with power cable), this strikes me as a fair ask on the used market. These late-'90s Mondial-built units originally retailed around USD1,800, and while pristine examples occasionally pop up near USD500-700 from specialty dealers, most clean working ACT-3s trade in the USD300-500 range depending on cosmetic wear and functionality—bargains under USD350 are rare but doable at estate sales.
Before biting, verify the digital board's health, as coax/Toslink inputs and DD/DTS decoders can flake after 25 years from capacitor woes or heat stress—demand seller-tested all 11 digital ins and 5.1 outs. Also confirm the RS-232 port and remote are included if listed, since replacements are scarce; skip if no recent service history on those 20-bit DACs. Solid vintage surround piece if it checks out.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Acurus emerged in 1993 from Mondial Designs in the United States, positioned as a more accessible counterpart to the acclaimed Aragon brand. Created to deliver high-end performance through minimalist designs, premium specifications, and made-in-America manufacturing, it targeted the specialty AV market against pricier imports. In mid-2009, Indy Audio Labs—co-founded by audio engineer Rick Santiago and physicist Ted Moore—acquired Acurus, revitalizing its legacy after a period of dormancy under Klipsch ownership.
The brand specializes in power amplifiers, AV control processors, and immersive home cinema solutions, blending cutting-edge audio technologies with system setup and control features. Recent offerings like the compact M8X and M4X amplifiers underscore its focus on multi-channel power for media rooms, gaming, and high-performance theaters, all engineered with proprietary electronics, robust mechanics, and intuitive software.
Acurus holds a strong reputation for delivering high-end audio at competitive prices, earning trust among discerning buyers for its rock-solid durability, authentic sound reproduction, and five-year warranty. As a premium American marque under Indy Audio Labs in Indianapolis, it occupies a niche in custom installations, appealing to knowledgeable enthusiasts seeking reliable, USA-built excellence without boutique excess.
