This is a seller’s market for the TA-E80ES, but US$6,999 is still well above the usual used range and looks ambitious rather than fair. Recent asking prices and completed-market chatter cluster around roughly US$530–US$1,500, with many current European listings landing around the equivalent of about US$1,500–US$1,700; even allowing a premium for a pristine example, US$6,999 is far outside normal territory.
That said, it’s a genuinely respected ES-series preamp: well built, fully featured, and sought after for its refined, quiet presentation and classic Sony industrial design. A clean, original, well-documented unit with remote and intact cosmetics does have collector appeal, but at this price I’d want exceptional provenance, serviced status, and accessories to justify it. Without that, it reads more like a trophy listing than a strong buy.
