Seller's Description

Manufactured between 1980 and 1982, the Sony TC-K22 cassette deck looks basic but when you use it you realise it's more than what you think. Simplicity always wins. This is true for both the design and the technical solution inside the metal case. The deck has a Tri-Duty DC Servo Motor that provides decent audio performance. It’s equipped with the Sony SD-head that sounds clear and dynamic. The playback is stabile, the machine rewinds and fast forwards really quick. The VU-meters are widened and friendly lit. The tape selector differs Type-I, FeCr, CrO2 and Metal tapes types. It's been a very nice experience recording with it. A truly lovable deck. This is a completely restored, cleaned and tested piece in excellent condition as seen in the photos and in video, all functions work properly.SpecificationsManufacturer: Sony Corporation; TokyoModel: TC-K 22Serial No: 534281Type: Cassette Tape DeckYears of manufacture: 1980 - 1982Manufactured in: KoreaDimensions (WHD): 430 x 100 x 270 mmNet weight: 4.5 kg Technical DataAlternating Current supply (AC): 220 VoltMaterial: Metal caseShape: Book-shelf unitType: 2-head, single compact cassette deck Track System: 4-track, 2-channel stereo Tape Speed: 4.75 cm/s Heads: 1 x Record / Playback, 1 x eraseTape Type: Type-I, FeCr, CrO2, MetalNoise Reduction: Dolby-BFrequency Response:with TYPE IV (Metallic) 20Hz to 16kHz (30Hz to 15kHz DIN)with TYPE III (Fe-Cr) 20Hz to 16kHz (30Hz to 15kHz DIN)with TYPE II (EHF) 20Hz to 15kHz (30Hz to 14kHz DIN)with TYPE I (BHF) 20Hz to 14kHz (30Hz to 12.5kHz DIN) Signal to Noise Ratio: 58dB at peak level - Dolby OffImproved by 5dB at 1kHz, 10dB above 5kHz - Dolby OnWow and Flutter: 0.07% WRMSTotal Harmonic Distortion: 1.0%Bias Frequency: 105kHzInput: 77.5mV (line), 0.25mV (mic)Output: 0.435V (line)International shipping in a hard cardboard box, carefully and safely lined.

About Sony

Sony emerged from the ruins of post-World War II Japan, founded on May 7, 1946, by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district. Starting with radio repairs and Japan's first magnetic tape recorder, the duo secured transistor licensing from Bell Labs, pioneering the TR-55 transistor radio in 1955. Renamed Sony Corporation in 1958—from the Latin "sonus" for sound—the brand symbolized Japan's ascent from cheap imitations to innovative leadership, fueled by Ibuka's engineering prowess and Morita's global marketing vision.

Sony's hi-fi legacy spans headphones, amplifiers, speakers, turntables, and DACs, alongside landmark formats like the Compact Disc in 1982 and Blu-ray. Iconic products include the Walkman for portable audio revolution and Trinitron televisions, blending consumer accessibility with cutting-edge tech. Today, offerings like the Signature Series headphones and ES amplifiers target discerning listeners seeking refined soundstaging and dynamic range.

Positioned as a mid-to-high-end powerhouse, Sony commands respect among knowledgeable buyers for blending mass-market reliability with premium performance, outpacing many pure audiophile brands in innovation and value. Far from vintage relic or niche boutique, it dominates with forward-thinking engineering, holding strong market share in headphones and streaming ecosystems.
