Seller's Description

Yes, they are gorgeous, but sound even better than they look!! I'm selling my exquisite pair of original 2nd generation JBL Century speakers that I've had recently restored and upgraded for greater power handling. These iconic speakers are much more than something else to listen to. They are mid century modern furniture and vintage electronics at its finest. I love just looking at them as much as listening to them. Unbelievably beautiful. When I listen to these speakers I hear instruments I don't hear with other speakers. They will bring out the finest in any receiver or amplifier, but if you have aMarantz receiver consider them husband and wife joined in heavenly fidelity. All tweeters, mid ranges and woofers have been removed and tested by an acoustic technician and have good dcr's. In addition, the woofers have passed a 30 and 50 hertz voice coil check to make sure they are not rubbing. The crossovers have been upgraded with the best polyester capacitors available and the speaker terminals have been upgraded to accept largerwire size. These can now handle 100 watts of power instead of the factory 50 watts of power per channel because of the upgraded capacitors and woofers. The beautiful walnut cabinets have been refinished and are in excellent condition but not flawless. Please look at all photos before buying. Included are the custom made solid steel speaker stands, orange grill cover inserts, free shipping, a 27x40 "Blown Away Guy" unframed replica poster, and a 100 foot roll of 14 gage speaker wire.Yes there are less expensive JBL speakers you can buy, but ask yourself, have they been upgraded? Are all the tweeters, mid ranges and woofers working like JBL intended them to? Are the cabinets and grills in pristine condition? Do they come with speaker stands? Is the shipping free? When your friends and neighbors see and listen to these, they will say, "Wow!".These absolutely gorgeous speakers are vintage electronics and mid century modern furniture at its finest. These will continue to appreciate it value and are sought out by collectors which differentiates them from the new ones that have been reissued by Jbl.This set of original JBL L100 Century speakers are truly a work of art. These are my generation and I'm proud of how they were designed and built before computers and robot technology. I enjoy looking at them as much as listening to them, that's what makes me love them so much.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Excellent condition makes this a more compelling buy, but at US$3,975 it sits far above the typical used market anchored by your comps: the median is US$127, with the 75th percentile at US$246. On those numbers alone, this is not a bargain; it’s an ambitious asking price and would need unusually strong provenance or included value to justify it.

That said, these are well-regarded speakers for a reason: big, lively presentation, strong midrange character, and the kind of vintage JBL appeal that keeps demand healthy. In clean, properly sorted condition, they can be a rewarding long-term hold, especially if the cabinets, drivers, and foam are all truly original and healthy. At this price, I’d want clear proof of originality, recent service, and no hidden restoration work before considering it.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About JBL

JBL traces its roots to 1946, when pioneering audio engineer James Bullough Lansing founded the company in Los Angeles, California, initially as James B. Lansing Sound, Incorporated. A veteran of loudspeaker design from earlier ventures like the Lansing Manufacturing Company and collaborations on Hollywood's first practical cinema systems, Lansing infused JBL with his relentless pursuit of acoustic clarity and fidelity. Though he passed away in 1949 amid financial strains, the brand endured under new leadership, accelerating in 1969 with acquisition by Harman International—now under Samsung—fueling global expansion and innovation.

JBL excels across professional and consumer audio realms, renowned for its loudspeakers that dominate studios, touring rigs, cinemas, and home setups. Iconic models like the D-130 woofer, Paragon stereophonic system, and L-100 Century defined eras of high-output sound, while modern lines span portable Bluetooth speakers, wireless headphones, soundbars, and pro monitors. The brand prioritizes robust transducers, advanced horns, and diamond-surround tech over niche components like turntables, DACs, or cables.

Positioned as a mid-tier powerhouse with pro-grade heritage, JBL commands respect among discerning buyers for delivering punchy, reliable performance at accessible prices, bridging live-event energy and home listening without high-end esoterica. Its vintage icons draw collectors, yet contemporary ubiquity in arenas and everyday gear cements market dominance for those valuing scale and excitement over boutique refinement.
