Seller's Description

The Holy Grail of Velodyne SubwoofersPresented here is a collector-grade Velodyne DD-18 in the rare, premium High-Gloss Cherry Wood veneer. This is not the standard black unit; it is furniture-grade audio art. I have recently hand-waxed the cabinet to a mirror-like finish to highlight the incredible natural grain, ensuring it looks as prestigious as it sounds. Do not trust a 123lb precision instrument to a standard cardboard box. I have spent significant time and money building a custom shipping solution to guarantee safe arrival: Internal Wood Crate: Hand-built 2x2 lumber internal frame with a solid reinforced floor to prevent cabinet compression. Layers of Armor: Double-bagged in 3mil plastic, surrounded by 1.5" Foamular rigid insulation, and encased in triple-walled cardboard.Two-Box Shipping Strategy: To protect the cabinet baffle, the 18" driver will be removed and shipped in its own dedicated, heavy-duty box. * Full Insurance: Shipping price includes Reverb Safe Shipping insurance for the full $3,900 value. What’s Included: Original Remote Control: Essential for the on-screen Room EQ settings. High-End Interconnects: Includes a pair of premium Red/Gold audiophile cables (valued at several hundred dollars) for the cleanest signal path possible. Hardware: Original feet are included (safely bagged and taped to the amp plate for transit). Note: Calibration mic not included; however, these units are easily tuned via the remote and OSD. Minor re-assembly of the driver is required (8 Allen bolts). I will provide a simple one-sheet guide to make this a 5-minute process for you.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Velodyne DD-18 Digital Drive is a rare beast from the early 2000s, with its high-gloss cherry finish and recent servicing pushing this USD 2,750 ask into ambitious territory. Typical used examples in good shape trade hands for USD 1,500-2,200 on the audiophile resale circuit, depending on cosmetics and original accessories—recently serviced units might nudge toward the top, but USD 2,750 feels steep without provenance on the work done.

Buyers, zero in on the servo accelerometer and DSP board, as these analog-era electronics are prone to drift or failure after 20+ years, potentially killing accuracy. Verify the full kit: remote, calibration mic with cable, and video/test tone cable—missing these halves the value. Probe the seller hard on service receipts and playtest for cone control down low.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Velodyne

Velodyne Acoustics traces its origins to 1983, when founder David Hall launched the brand in Silicon Valley, the epicenter of high-tech innovation. Hall, an engineer with a vision for revolutionizing home audio, introduced the groundbreaking ULD-18 subwoofer featuring a patented accelerometer-based High Gain Servo system. This technology delivered unprecedented control over low-frequency reproduction, setting a new standard for bass performance in music and movies and establishing Velodyne as a pioneer in powered subwoofers.

The brand's product focus remains laser-sharp on subwoofers, with over 200 patents driving innovations like the world's first DSP-controlled model in 2003. Velodyne specializes in high-quality active subwoofers optimized for hi-fi stereo systems and home cinema, emphasizing deep, distortion-free bass that integrates seamlessly into demanding setups. While not diversifying into speakers, amplifiers, or other categories, their designs prioritize technical precision for audiophiles seeking foundational low-end authority.

Velodyne holds a commanding reputation as the world's leading subwoofer manufacturer for over 40 years, positioned firmly in the high-end market for discerning hi-fi and custom install buyers. Acquired by Germany's Audio Reference in 2019 and now exclusively imported in the U.S. by Origin Acoustics via custom channels, the brand continues to embody bass perfection, blending American engineering heritage with European stewardship.
