Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a seller’s market category, and this asking price is ambitious: US$24,800 sits far above the recent used median of US$184 and even the 75th percentile of US$345, so it is not priced like a normal used amp listing. In short, it is a specialty collectible-level ask, not a mainstream value buy.

That said, this is one of the most iconic Sennheiser statements ever made, and the attraction is obvious: extreme rarity, cult status, and a reputation for reference-grade sound that still draws serious collectors and endgame buyers. At this price, the real question is provenance and completeness—original packaging, matching pieces, service history, and condition matter a lot more than usual.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Sennheiser

Founded in June 1945 by Dr. Fritz Sennheiser in a farmhouse near Hanover, Germany, Sennheiser began as Laboratorium Wennebostel, producing voltmeters and early microphones amid post-World War II reconstruction. Seven engineers from the University of Hannover joined the founder, quickly pivoting to broadcast microphones like the DM 2 in 1946 and the groundbreaking MD 82 shotgun mic in 1956. Renamed Sennheiser electronic in 1958, the family-owned company passed to second- and third-generation leadership, maintaining its innovative spirit over eight decades.

Sennheiser excels in professional and consumer audio, renowned for microphones, wireless systems, and headphones that set industry standards. Pioneers of the first open-back headphones (HD 414 in 1968) and enduring studio icons like the MD 421 and MD 441, they also produce high-end headphones, earbuds, soundbars, and conferencing solutions. While strong in pro audio like mixers and geophysical gear, their consumer focus centers on headphones and wireless tech rather than amplifiers, speakers, turntables, DACs, or cables.

Sennheiser commands a premium position in the hi-fi market, blending mid-tier accessibility with high-end excellence for discerning buyers and professionals. Trusted for reliability and sonic precision, it appeals to audiophiles seeking reference-grade headphones without boutique obscurity, backed by a heritage of technological firsts that sustains its global leadership.
